my little one is 5 months old and exclusively breast fed. He feeds quite often, and his sleep times vary every day. He doesn’t have set nap times, I just try to put him to bed and wake him up at the same time every day, and follow wake windows. His first nap is pretty predictable, He wakes at 9:30 and usually wants to go to sleep at 11. But sometimes he will sleep for 2 hours, sometimes he will sleep for 45 minutes, which makes the day so hard to predict!

when my friends want to make plans or I want to take him to a baby class it is so hard to predict what times I can do depending on when he will be awake! He won’t nap in his buggy, the car or anywhere, has to be in silence with white noise or he can’t settle which makes it harder.

what am I doing wrong?!

the baby class I want to go to starts at 2, but some days he’s only just waking up from a nap, others he’s about ready to go down for another nap or sometimes he’d be able to go.

it’s just so hard and I don’t know how to make plans/go to groups when this happens:(

You just go and do whatever you need to do. Sometimes you will spend the baby class in the corner of the room feeding, shushing and changing while talking to other mums doing exactly the same x baby classes at that age are for mummies!

Just as pp said, just do what you need to do. If they sleep through everything thats fine. You need some adult company and socialisation too!
Routines will come in time for most babies but you can't let them stop you from going out each week.

Mine was the same. I booked eight weeks of baby classes, about half he slept all of the way through, the rest he slept or fed for part of them! Baby classes are very easy going places, you’ll find some will sleep, cry, feed etc

Mine was exactly the same at that age. His routine didn’t really start to emerge until 8/9 months, and even now at 1 he can be really variable in his naps.

You absolutely aren’t doing anything wrong - this is just typical of young babies.

Go to the classes you can make, have friends round for coffee instead of meeting them out, try to go with the flow. Be kind to yourself - it’s not a problem you need to solve, it’s just the way babies are!

Oh gosh just go. Make your own routine and he will probably fall into it eventually.

@Capricopia thank you! that’s made me feel so much better!xx
