Peppermint essential oil and babies

I have a bit of an obsession with peppermint dr bronners castille soap. I love that it's so multi purpose - I use it as shower gel, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, washing up liquid, household cleaner. But a friend has read that peppermint essential oil isn't safe for babies, so I was wondering if anyone else uses this around the home / as shower gel etc, or other peppermint oil containing products? Generally in the things I use it for it gets rinsed off, right, and it's at a low concentration anyway? My friend came round with her 7mo dd and didn't want her to eat with my 6mo ds as she could still smell peppermint on their spoons I'd just washed up. Does anyone know what the problem is - do I really need to switch to something else?!
