2 year old toddler sleep regression? Is this a thing?

Need the help of the hive mind please.

My 24 month old boy has just this week gone from dream sleeper to total hellish hysterical human.

We have had months of settled and fun bedtime and nap, stories, cuddles, lights off and down he does into cot in own room.

Now he suddenly seems terrified of his cot. Totally hysterical and sad.
I've gone back to 'stay and support' method so stay with him reassuring him until he falls asleep. and then again when he wakes during the night.

I've read this can happen around this age - but has anyone experienced this? How did you get on? Any tips? Will it pass?

Thank you so much!

I have a just turned 2 year old too and he is waking up about 3 or 4 times every night shouting for me and when I try to put him back in the cot he says 'no cot'. I think there definitely is a 2 year sleep regression, I can't remember it too well with my oldest as dS2 was a newborn, so it is all a haze but hoping it settles down again soon.

yes! 'up mama, up' 'no no no no'.
He sounds just so very sad but also super tired and just wants to be asleep.
I'm desperately hoping this will pass soon - here at work half functioning on zero sleep.
(I know I'm very much not alone in that though!)

DS 10 (!) has started needing to fall asleep next to me in my bed, then I transfer him to his own once he's asleep.
