Moving on from bottle

20 month old is getting a bit obsessed with her bottle.

She asks for a milk about 4 times a day and has started to wake all hours of the night and ask for more milk every time. I'm guessing she finds the bottle soothing and the milk is an attempt to get her back to sleep. We had the same issue with my eldest as I obviously didn't nip the bottle in the bud early enough.

I know she's not meant to be having 700 milks every day. Could anyone tell me what cup they moved on to when transitioning from the bottle and what sort of cup you used in the night. I know she doesn't need milk in the night but she would scream until she got some . Advice please

I thought it was going to be very difficult to get my ten month old off his night milk, but we have offered him water and a cuddle and had a little walk about and a quiet chat until he was visibly sleepy again and within a few days he was just sleeping through.

Nobody was more astonished than me!

Honestly, I wouldn't think about a different cup for her to use, it's just kicking the problem further down the road.

But I was dreading it, I promise, just turned out not to be the nightmare I it would be!

The tommee tippee free flow sippy cup is best because it’s nothing like a bottle. Anything with a teat isn’t going to solve the problem

When my little boy (who is now 5) was a baby, we moved him onto the munchkin 360 cup. It doesn't have a teat or anything and has a seal so nothing spills from it. We transitioned him onto cows milk at a year old and he had dropped his bedtime milk at around 14 months. Then over time he naturally became less interested in drinking milk as he was getting it in other ways, such as on his cereal and I was adding it into meals where I could. He got to a point where he preferred water/weak juice. Maybe try replacing the milk with water and a snuggle and see if that helps, so you know your little one isn't thirsty and has had some comfort too 😊

I'm hoping the munchkin 360 cups are still around so I can use them again for my baby girl when the time comes. Good luck!
