Silly question coats/jackets and winter

FTM here to a 1 year old DS. He was born in lockdown last year so obviously we didn't get out and about in the winter. So I'm getting myself in a tizzy with coats and jackets. My DS has a warm fleecy cardigan that he wears in the car on journeys as I know it isn't safe for him to wear his coat. But... how do you manage when you are moving from car to pram? Last week I met my mum and grandma at a garden centre. He wore his vest, long sleeved top and fleecy cardigan in the car and then when I got to the garden centre I had to take his thick cardigan off, put his coat on and shove him in the pram all whilst he is thrashing around like a crazed octopus. And then on return take him out of his coat
put back in fleecy cardigan and then wrestle him in the car seat.I had moments of thinking why am I making this so difficult? am I missing something here? What should I be doing? Just wear his normal vest, jumper and forget the fleecy carpet? And then just get him into just coat? Am I overthinking this? Help a FTM out! Thank you x

Mine just wears his normal clothes (so jumper, vest & trousers) in the car seat, with a blanket over him. When we get to where ever it is we're going, I just pop his coat on and stick him in the buggy which has a cosy toes thing on it.

Yep, this. No need for an extra layer in the car, they can have a blanket over them and the heating on.

You can put the jacket on in the car seat for warmth - OVER the straps, on backwards. Then you don't need the fleece. Just lift it off at the other end, take straps off, put it on right way around and put him in the pram. Maybe slightly easier. Mine still wears a backwards jacket in the car seat sometimes at 5.5.

I don't know if I'm doing it right but my LO (8 months) just wears normal clothes in the car seat. The car warms up quickly and his seat is extra snuggly anyway - he's always warm when I get him out. Then I put a hat on before getting him out of the car and dressed in coat + fleece footmuff in the pram. If he ever had cold feet or something I would put a blanket on him. He's usually warmer than me though!

We had a car seat cover that essentially is a zip up blanket. You put the baby in the car seat in regular clothes, strap them in and then the blanket folds over and zips up to their chin.
Then on arrival we’d put their coat on in the car before setting off.

My baby wears normal clothes in the car - if it's really cold she wears her hat and gloves and I might put a blanket over the straps. I add a coat when she gets out of the car. Also as stated above the coat can he put over the car seat as a blanket.

How do you get your kids to keep a blanket on?! 😂 We have knitted poncho for the car, it’s really easy on & off over the head, literally a couple seconds! My youngest reallllly feels the cold, within minutes her lips go blue! So we need to keep her warm!

Either do as pp say and just leave him in normal clothes in the car or if it's particularly cold in the car get a mid-weight jacket instead of a coat and put it on over the fleece when you get there.

JoJo Maman Bebe do a jacket that comes in two parts (inner fleece and outside jacket) so you can use each part individually or combine when very cold.

You can get cozy toes for car seats although it's never really cold enough in the car to need it after the first few minutes
