Morning after pill while breastfeeding- bleeding

Hi,

I’m now 7 weeks postpartum after having ds via c section and am ebf.
Last week DH forgot that I was no longer pregnant and now needed to revert back to withdrawal method. I took the morning after pill for the first time and had no side effects and contributed breast feeding. However 5 days later I have heavy bleeding which seems like a period?!
With my older ds my period didn’t start till 9 months pp.
has anyone experienced bleeding after the MAP? And could it really have brought on my period so early?! Confused

I think the MAP always causes bleeding?

I’ve read about spotting but not really bleeding. This feels like a proper period
I’m so keen to know as I really suffer before and during my normal periods and would love to not have to go through it for 8/9 months!

Hey @Poppyboo231 what happened in the end? I’ve just had the exact same thing happen 🙈 gutted if it’s brought my periods back early as I’m breastfeeding and it seems to be having an impact on my little one 😢 I was only 5 weeks postpartum.

Thanks

Hi @HanLan89

unfortunately it did jump start my periods and I’ve had them since 7 weeks pp. the hormones in the pill must trigger something!

Oh no! I’m so disappointed 😭 was looking forward to not having to worry about them for a bit longer. Did you continue breastfeeding? Does it affect your baby at all? Mine seems to have extra bad and painful wind ☹️ I read that can happen

Hello @HanLan89 @Poppyboo231

Can I ask if you continue breastfeeding as soon after taking MAP? Did you wait 8 hours before breastfeeding your baby?
I had to take MAP two days ago, I’m EBF my 9 week old baby, GP said no need to stop feedings however chemist said to wait 8 hours before feeding again. Baby ended up having a feed fours hours after I took MAP as he wouldn’t take a bottle.
I’m concerned about the hormonal exposure for the baby . He has not opened his bowels today which is unusual…

@Poppyboo231 I didn’t feed for 8 hours as luckily we had just started testing the baby with a bottle so she took it ok overnight. I did read in the pamphlet that it was safe to if needed though, so I’m sure it’s ok. My period did come a few days after which definitely affected my milk and my baby’s feeding pattern / wind. So it might be that? Hope your little one is ok and poops soon! X
