Long post - My youngest who is now 18 months old was born 3 weeks early, weighed 7lb 14 and was perfectly healthy. At 3 months exactly, I took her to the out of hours drs as she had a temp that calpol wouldn't bring down and seemed really lethargic and poorly. We got sent to hospital and discovered she had a bad UTI - she had to have lots of tests to rule out sepsis and meningitis. She was on IV antibiotics for a week and then oral antibiotics for 9 months. She's had kidney scans, bladder scans which showed mild reflex. At 1 yo they have discharged her as happy with her scans. However, throughout this year she has had illness after illness. She's had a chest infection which she needed more antibiotics for, lots of colds and viral infections and she has a constant cough that gets worse when she's run down. Whenever she's run down, her chest gets really bad and she struggles to breathe especially at night which we've had to go A&E for a couple of times. She now has a preventer inhaler and a blue inhaler for when she's struggling.
I'm just worried that there might be something underlying thats causing all of this or does it sound normal, given what she's been through?
I'm having major problems at work as I've had to be off with her so many times and they make me take unpaid leave, which then affects us financially.
I've spoken to many GPs about my worries, they all say it's normal for a child her age which I agree with in terms of colds etc, but not bacterial infections and her bad chest and breathing.
Any advice welcome!
