Hi all I am fairly positive my son has croup cough! He's randomly started with a cough during the night but it's very distinct barking coughing which comes from croup!
Just after experience. I have a 4 year old, will he likely catch it if he hasn't already had it? Do adults catch it? What's the best treats ment I can give my son other then calpol etc!
He seems absolutely fine, just the barking!

Our four year old gets this when she’s run down. She has done since she turned two. It’s a pain because it keeps everyone up all night but then she’s right as rain in the morning and bouncing around while we’re all knackered.
Croup is not contagious. The illness (a cold for example) that triggers the croup may well be contagious but croup is her body’s reaction rather than an illness in itself. Our three year old us never had it.
She seems to be outgrowing it now, thankfully.
It’s relatively harmless but keep an eye on them in case their breathing becomes laboured.

My dS2 has had this twice since July, latest being yesterday. I had to get him seen yesterday as he needed the steroid treatment. That has stopped the distinct stridor cough. He's still.off his food. I've given calpol today.

Hope your DS gets better soon.
