Older son very short

Should I be worried? DS7 years 8 months and is 128cm tall. My DS5 2 months is very tall at 117cm. Just checked the growth chart and oldest is really low on the chart. My husband is 6 foot 1 and I am 5 foot 6. Just seemed quite small?

I actually find the first born child is always the smallest when everyone is an adult.
Height order seems to go in reverse to order they are born, youngest the tallest and eldest the shortest.

Don’t know if anyone else has notice this to be the case the majority of the time but I certainly have.

Lostmyheart101 · 27/11/2021 20:35

And no, I wouldn’t be worried, he has lots of time to grow.

Christabellaxx · 27/11/2021 20:46

He is on the 50th percentile , so absolutely nothing to worry about at the minute - I’m sure he will have several growth spurts before he is done .

@Lostmyheart101 that's really interesting as always thought it strange that my three boys are like that and my best friends 3 sons too🤔

This isn’t the case in any of the families I know. In fact the first borns are all taller.

This study also found that first born children are usually taller.

It is really interested that birth order can have an affect so many things though!

OP is your son consistently following the same percentile or has he dropped down?

ShesComeUndone · 27/11/2021 21:03

Sorry for the word soup. It should say ‘can affect so many things’!

Lucycantdance · 27/11/2021 21:10

In all honesty I haven’t tracked it for years @ShesComeUndone so I’m not sure. He was never particularly tall but u see 25th centile seems a shock

@Lucycantdance
I think if I’m looking at the chart correct he is just above it …. I worried about my DS as he started out on 25th percentile but caught up , 19 now and just under 6ft but was always shortest in class til Year 8 .

Going off your and your husband's heights he will be fine. I know kids who were tiny all the way through primary and early secondary and they're average to tall now.

PeachesPumpkin · 27/11/2021 23:23

We are a tall family. My oldest son was always very tall - above 99th centile. My other son was always on the 50th centile until he was 13 when puberty hit and he shot up to the 99th centile - he has stretch marks all over his back.
Everyone is different, each child may follow a different parent’s growth pattern.

You’re welcome

I just checked the charts, ds2 was below the 0.4th centile for height at 2 Shock (he was tiny but i never realised he was that small)
Hes between 25th and 50th at 15.
I'm only 5ft 1 though and his dad is only 5ft10.

HerRoyalHappiness · 27/11/2021 23:41

My DD is on the 9th centile for height at almost 8. She's tiny, the smallest in her class. But then neither I nor her dad are very tall (I'm 5 foot 6 and her dad is 5 foot 8) but her nan (my mum) is only 4 foot 10 so clearly she just takes after her nan.

My 13 year old is 5 foot 7, not the tallest but chances are he'll be taller than his dad.
My 6 year old is the same height as his sister there's taller and smaller kids than him in his class.
