What does your 2yo wear to bed?

DS currently wears footed sleep suit and tommee tippee steppee still. He's always hated sleep bags and even hates his feet covered in the steppee 😂 but obviously after two it's kind of moving onto pjs...don't think I've seen any sleep suits for that age range anymore and don't want him to get cold feet. I would try him with a duvet/pillow but he's SO wriggly when he sleeps I can't imagine it staying on him or him even using a pillow? He's still in his cot too. What do you guys put your toddlers in to sleep? Anyone with fussy, wriggly 2yos that figured out a good system let me know! Thanks x

My 21 MO is so wriggly too but he doesn’t do too badly with a pillow and duvet (he’s still in his cot too).
I have him in cuffed bottom PJ’s and long sleeved tops and put him down to sleep on the pillow. He does a big wriggle when he’s getting comfy but once I know he’s asleep, I go back in and tuck him in. I still use his gro egg to monitor his room temp so I don’t worry about him getting cold. Even if he’s not in the duvet, I find it keeps him warm anyway as he curls up on it.
I practiced the concept of pillows with him using our sofa cushions. He got the idea of lying down on it and going ‘aaaah’ for sleep. He didn’t use it for a while in the cot but does now. I find he wriggles less when he’s on the pillow.
Hope you find something that works for you 😊

Pyjamas and a sleeping bag but just about to move to duvet as she’s dry by day and now wants to wee in the night so we need to transition to sides off etc.
She loves the sleeping bag though.
We abandoned sleepsuits due to potty training. But you can still get them in big sizes. Bonds wondersuits and the Lindex zip ones come in big sizes. We hadn’t grown out of them.

mynameiscalypso · 26/11/2021 20:16

My two year old is normal pyjamas; has been since he was about 9 months. He is just about to move to a pillow and duvet having been in a sleeping bag until now. I am slightly worried about the transition because he is a wriggler too but I figure he'll soon learn to keep still! Toddler duvets seem very big vs his cot mattress so I figure there will be enough to cover him somehow.

Whatever she insists on usually! Most of the time it’s summer pjs or just a normal t shirt and short leggings whatever the weather

Namechangedforspooky · 26/11/2021 20:18

She’s not in a sleeping bag. In a normal single bed with duvet

LP12345 · 26/11/2021 20:20

Thanks guys! Deffo given me something to think about, might try him with a duvet and pillow tbf and see how he gets on with that. His room isn't too chilly, I use the grow egg still too to keep an eye on temp so hopefully he'd still be comfy. We're just about to start potty training as well so I feel like it's all one big transition into proper little boy life! X

My 2 year old is in pj's long top and bottoms, with a fleece lined blanket, no pillow yet and he's still in a cot too.
He wears socks in bed and a tee-shirt under his pj's because by and large he's kicked his blanket off as he is the biggest fidget bum I've ever met.

Fallagain · 26/11/2021 20:24

Short sleeved PJs and a 4 tog duvet. She has not long started to wear PJ after sleeping naked (apart from nappy) over the summer.

Jxtina86 · 26/11/2021 20:28

My 2 year old wears pjs - has done since around 1. We stopped using sleeping bags over the summer - it was easier to manage with a blanket during the warmer nights. She has a pillow which she loves but she's not a fan of the duvet - she sleeps on top of it with the blanket. She's fairly wriggly but I usually check on her before I go to bed and pull the blanket up over her. I keep the window cracked slightly (as she's prone to coughs and a bit of cooler fresh air seems to help keep them at bay!) but I have the thermostat on the radiator in mid-range so when the heating does come on it keeps the room at a comfortable temp - it seems to be working and she rarely wakes from being cold.

Beseen22 · 26/11/2021 20:29

Almost 2 yo in little old man winter flannel pjs tonight. Still in cot but has duvet and tiny flat pillow from ikea. He sleeps great, normally he's naked by the time I get in in the morning he doesn't really feel the cold so I doubt he sleeps under the duvet, but its there if he needs it. My eldest was put to bed last night and I went to check him at 1 and he had set up a little bed on the floor with a pillow and a summer thin blanket. Kids are so weird. As long as they are sleeping I'm not fussed.

Lostthetastefordahlias · 26/11/2021 20:33

When Dd was 2 she used to wriggle out of the duvet, we would put her in velour pyjamas from m&s - not cheap but really warm - and cosy fluffy socks we call her “bedsocks” - she still wears them now. Then if the duvet came off she wasnt too cold.

Antsgomarching · 26/11/2021 20:38

Mines still in long sleeve body suit as shes in a superlove sleeping bag that has legs. She’s a writher and it’s going to get cold where we are and we don’t have heating (usually extremely hot country so most residential buildings have no heating) so a duvet won’t work for her just yet.

Ihaveoflate · 26/11/2021 20:38

My 2 (+4 mth) year old is in normal cotton jersey pyjamas (long sleeved) with a vest, a 4.5 tog duvet and a pillow. We're in the processes of transitioning to a bed, so she still has one side up on the cot.

The duvet can't come off because it's one of those Gro to Bed sets with the zips on the fitted sheet and duvet cover (very cheap second hand from FB market place - extortionate brand new!).

LaTomatina · 26/11/2021 20:43

He wears pyjamas. He has a normal single duvet, but turned horizontal and loosely tucked into the sides of his bunk. He still manages to kick it off sometimes, but it lasts longer.

moleeye · 27/11/2021 06:11

My 2.5 year old has been in pjs since he was about 1. He also has a normal duvet and pillow. We took the sides down off his cot and turned it into a bed just after he turned 2.

I found he wriggled a bit at the beginning but soon just buried himself under the covers. Mind you he is a hot sweaty mess and I often find he's stripped off down to just his pants!

He has a big sister so wants to be like her.

Babyiskickingmyribs · 27/11/2021 06:23

Put socks on him when you put him to bed. Or before if there’s no problem with slippy floors (we don’t have carpet and it’s an issue). My kid hated sleeping bags as soon as he started walking so he had extra warm pyjamas and a blanket and at 2 we got him a cot sized duvet. We still do a cest and velour pyjamas so when most of him is out of the duvet he’s still warm enough. Currently he sleeps on a cot with one side taken off.

Caspianberg · 27/11/2021 06:41

19 month has been with a duvet and cot pillow about 3 weeks now. He was outgrowing sleeping bag so we took the plunge figuring I would buy larger if really needed. He’s slept much better the last few weeks with a duvet. Guess it’s cosier. It’s a cot bed one and he is in cot still.

Wears long sleeve poppered vest, regular long pjs and thick socks. Room is 20/21 degrees.
I gave up also a few weeks ago with sleepsuits.

SpangoDweller · 27/11/2021 06:47

We have a mixture of footed sleepsuits and normal top & bottom PJs for nearly 2yo. Have been using a pillow and duvet/blanket since about 18 months (it was summer and a bit hot for even the coolest sleeping bag) but DS is very wriggly and mostly sleeps in child’s pose when he first settles down so I go and tuck him in when he’s settled and stretched out on his side or back.

I hadn’t thought about night-time potty training and sleepsuit issues, looks like it’s time to phase those out over the next few months. He’s not ready yet but probably will be by the summer.

LP12345 · 27/11/2021 07:24

Thanks everyone! I've ordered him a cot bed duvet/pillow set and some cute covers and pjs so I'm sure he'll love them all - I do 😂 think I'll try him with vest/pjs and socks to start with and see how he gets on with the duvet 🙂 x

Just normal 2 piece pyjamas with a vest underneath. We moved onto these at around 12 months when walking started as we found babygros quite dangerous with flappy feet to trip over.

SparrowNest · 27/11/2021 17:59

Normal pyjamas and a lightweight duvet

Timeturnerplease · 27/11/2021 20:09

Goodness me this gave me such a headache with DD1. She started refusing even a sleeping bag with legs at around 18 months, yet is such an active sleeper (often sleptwalked around her cot at that age) that she had no hope of keeping a duvet on. Even tightly tucked in she’d escape in moments.

In the winter we still - at age 3 - dress her in a fleece pjs, with a warm vest underneath tucked in, and long socks. We only buy cuffed pjs to avoid the legs riding up.

We haven’t had the snow yet here in the south, but she’s currently happily asleep in the above and I can see her on the monitor - duvet is now out of the bed, and she’s lying on her tummy diagonally across the bed with the pillow by her feet.

LP12345 · 27/11/2021 20:30

@Timeturnerplease Made me chuckle 😂 sounds just like my little boy! Currently lay sideways in his cot with his legs in the air. It's cold here with all the snow so I'm keep the heating on a timer but I think he'll always need some layers til he learns to lay still in bed! Bless them x

How do people get their 2 year olds into sleep suits?! Both my DD’s were in PJ’s by 10 months as they hated being pinned down to get into sleep suits. They both wear long sleeved PJs, vest & socks in winter. Short sleeves & shorts in summer.

My DD is 20 months, we are just about to transition to a duvet & pillow. She’s wriggly so I’m in two minds but DD1 was the same & actually, became a lot less wriggly when we introduced a pillow!

LuluBlakey1 · 27/11/2021 21:38

Pyjamas and a 4.5 tog duvet made from recycled bottles 😁
