DD broken arm

My 6 year old DD broke her arm at a soft play centre on Tuesday evening. It was traumatic (as you would expect) and she had to have morphine and gas and air in A&E. The lady whose grandaughter bumped into my little one didnt help by insisting that my DD was over reacting and she didnt need to go to hospital as there was nothing wrong.

The school rang yesterday and said they need to do a risk assessment before she can go in. I don't feel ready to send her yet. It's her right hand and shes right handed and I would worry about how she is goign to cope with lunch, toilet trips, etc.

I'm still waiting to hear from the hospital with further information and support but when I rang yesterday and the day before they said we were on the list to be called.

Has anyones little ones ever broken a bone? And how long did you keep them off school for?

My DD broke her left arm ( left handed) at 7 years during gymnastics practice 20 years ago....she had surgery the following day then plaster for 8 weeks.....I would imagine schools are more risk averse these day as my daughter just went back after a couple of day and I don’t recall any issues.

I broke my arm when I was in primary school, I had a cast for 8 weeks then another cast for 7 because of the area of the break. My parents sent me to school two days after it happened. It was my right arm and I’m right handed, the school provided me with a computer to do my work on but I actually found it easier to teach myself to hold a pencil with the cast on. Can’t remember how I managed bathroom trips but I must of done it fine. This was 20 years ago or so now, so your kids school might have better strategies in place for managing this type of injury. I hope your LO is okay xx

I think it must totally vary between breaks. I broke my arm at a similar age and was back the next day. On the other hand I definitely didn’t need morphine !
I would see how she feels and what the school comes up with
