Baby gaviscon query?!

Tbug · 25/11/2021 17:50

Been prescribed gaviscon but it says 15ml of cooled boiled water but it fills her up and she doesn't want more boob. Anyone done it in less like 10ml? 15ml seems loads!! Also anyone mixed it with breastmilk rather than water?!

Following as wondering this exact same thing! 15ml seems to be loads. It does say to mix with 4oz of formula so would it be breast milk equivalent?!

Tbug · 25/11/2021 18:13

@MCMelon it does doesn't it, I used 5ml syringe so took ages and did your baby hate it :( gunna ask GP tomorrow but he doesn't seem to know much lol x

My GP and HV didn't have a clue either. Have you tried using the top of a bottle and holding the syringe to the bottle so they take it through that? Worked yesterday for us but not today. Apparently it tastes really salty. My little girl just gags and spits it back out.

@MCMelon no, she won't go near a bottle lol fussy little thing. Took half an hour earlier to get it in her! Yeah it feels mean doesn't it. How long have you been using it for? Has it made difference?

If you've got expressed breast milk, you can absolutely mix the gaviscon in that. But I'd expect it to be a real struggle to dissolve it in any smaller volume.

PunchyAnts · 25/11/2021 18:51

I used breast milk and it did the trick!

Tbug · 25/11/2021 18:57

Yay thank you ill use some expressed milk :) @PunchyAnts did you use a bottle? Mine won't take bottle so using a syringe!

As above I used either expressed breast milk or dissolved it in only 5ml of water, it look longer to dissolve but was a lot less water for him and still seemed to be as effective! If your LO doesn't seem to like the syringe try a spoon and let them lap it up off the spoon, that worked really well for us as it meant he was in control of how slow/fast it went into his mouth and he seemed to prefer that

@Tbug this is our third day. We've had mixed results but I think our reflux issue is part of many allergies my girl has. It does seem to have made a small difference. It has affected her poo already and reduced the amount and frequency so I'm watching out for constipation. I'm starting on one sachet and will slowly increase.
