Quiet Baby

Dear Mums,
New user here - mum of a 3 day old baby boy - I'm a little worried about him as he is being very quiet. He is crying largely in the night (dad having to get up many times !!!!!!!) but is largely silent during the day. Some visitors to the house who he had never met before approached him and he made no noise and very little movement. He is a little pale and as a young mother I feel I may be doing something wrong. I also think he may have a tooth coming through? Is this too early?
Thank you,

  • Concerned new mother.

Hi OP congrats on your new baby!
3 day olds really don't do much except sleep, poo, cry and drink milk. In fact they sleep most of the time! He won't have a clue that someone new is there or engage in anything except his instincts to cry when hungry or soiled or wanting a cuddle.
At 3 day old you should still be able to get advice from the midwife or health visitor. Why don't you call them and ask for a home visit?

Four questions

Is he feeding?
Is he weeing?
Is he pooing?
Is he sleeping?

If the answer to all those questions is yes then you have a three day old baby doing exactly what a three day old baby is supposed to be doing. Some babies are noisier than others.

If you are still worried then phone your mid wife or health visitor.

Congratulations btw, remember to look after yourself, you have just done an amazing thing. Flowers
