Powder formula

Hi all, I’ve just started using powder formula, I was previously using ready made liquid formula.

The first few bottles I made, I was adding the formula to the liquid, but the scoop was getting steamed up and the formula was sticking to the scoop. I’ve now started putting the formula in a sterile tub and adding this to the water instead.

I’m having a panic now though because it has just occurred to me, that I’ve got the powder wet previously from the scoop and so introduced moisture to the powder. Could this make my baby ill? Is this the same as using made up formula past the one hour mark, if moisture has got into the powder? Thank you!

Don’t panic. I used to leave the scoop on top of the tub if it ever got damp.
I’d decant into a tub(don’t worry about it being a sterile tub as formula tubs aren’t sterile- hence the need for hot water) then put into the water.

Save a few scoops so you can wash/dry if needed.

Please don't worry and as per pp don't worry about the sterile tub.

I've got a pack of these www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tippee-Milk-Powder-Dispensers/dp/B000UUO61Y and measure out formula for the day in one go

Put the scoops in a dry bottle, then add the hot water. This way the scoop won’t get wet.

Thanks everyone!

Should I throw out the current formula and start again with a new tub? As it’s had moisture get into it now.

No, you won't need to throw away the current tub because of a damp scoop. Moisture gets in all the time from the air anyway, and the powder in the tubs is definitely not sterile. That's why it's important that the powder is dissolved in very hot water rather than cold/warm water.

I’ve been chucking a steamed up scoop into the tub for the last 9 months and nothing has happened to my baby 😊 it’s fine!
