My little girl is just gone 1 and she has always been a very emotionally expressive baby - so we get tons of smiles and laughs which people always comment on, but we also know very well when she’s even the slightest bit unhappy!
In the past few weeks she’s been very prone to shouting out non stop if she’s displeased with something. At home we manage this fairly ok for the most part but it’s been happening mostly when we are out. Initially it seemed that she wanted to get out of her buggy (which she’s never been a big fan of) but now it’s gotten to the point where she freaks out whether she’s in the buggy, in our arms, or in her trike and no matter where we go out to! She used to adore being in the local shopping centre and people watching but last time we went we had to leave within 20 minutes because she was shouting the whole time. Same if we walk to the shop, in the doctor’s waiting room, or basically anywhere! We have tried riding it out, distracting etc but nothing has helped and we are close to starting to avoid going places because it’s just so unenjoyable.
In case it’s mentioned I don’t think this has anything to do with stimulation levels because if anything she has always much preferred places that are busier and have more people. She loves interacting with people and I have noticed that she can get frustrated when the random people we see out and about don’t engage with her.
Mainly looking for reassurance that this is a phase if anyone has been through similar?!
She’s not walking yet which I’m sure is part of the problem as I’m sure she’s bored and restricted, obviously she can’t crawl around when we are out in a shop or wherever.
She is also just coming out of a week long viral infection so I wonder if the run up to that plus the illness itself has made things worse.
Any advise much appreciated!
