Kids trousers wearing out at knee

As a mother of boys who seem to go through hundreds of pairs of trousers by wearing out the knees, I am wondering if anyone has found a solution to this? I have tried iron on patches but they always come off, and the so called ‘Iron Knee’ trousers I found wore out just as quickly. I hate having to throw away otherwise good clothes just because of this.

I iron the patches on and then sew them on too! Blanket stitch round the edge.

Yes I think you are right! Sometimes I just take the pockets off the back and sew them onto the knees!

My solution was shorts for school and tracksuits ( cheap) as far as possible at home , patched if did go through knee . Obvs shorts weren't allowed in senior school but it happened less often by then. I continued to patch though.

Thank you! Has anyone tried ‘Iron Knee’ trousers from Lansend?
