Toddler hit head - so upset

My 18 month old was sitting on the wooden floor in the lounge earlier. I was sitting right next to her and turned round suddenly. I think I must have startled her, as she fell back and hit her head on the wooden floor. There was a loud noise as she hit the floor, she immediately burst into tears and was crying for about five or six minutes. She had her milk about 30 minutes later and is in bed now, but I’m absolutely distraught - it’s all my fault. There was no swelling, but I’ve read that can actually mean it’s a worse injury as it’s gone inward rather than outward. Should I have taken her to A&E?

I just keep imagining how I would feel if I fell straight back from sitting position onto a hard floor. It would really hurt.

Hey! As pp have said , we've had a few trips to a and e and they've basically stated the above, unless they were drowsy, vomiting, had uneven pupils, bleeding or confused then your toddler will be fine :) my 2 year old was running and fell head first on to concrete, he was and is absolutely, but my god I felt terrible , this is a photo from when it happened, falling backwards on to wooden floor she will be fine x

Thanks @Leafblower14. Bless your son, that looks painful. It’s so reassuring to hear that he was fine. It’s just so easily done x

It's scary isn't it!
I try to keep my son up for an hour+ when he has hit his head. I won't let him nap.

When he was 3 months old my DN tripped and dropped a hard plastic toy on his head! My heart sank and I went over to A&E.

He's now 2 and walks into everything! He walked into the front door yesterday! Bashed his head on the stair gate today. He doesn't look where he is going and if you hold his hand you have to look out for him because he just doesn't pay attention to what's in front of him 😂.

How are you both @sdfg32? Hope you managed some sleep.

DD has had concussion twice and it is scary. The first time she was at soft play where you could shoot balls out of and one was out of action so had a bucket on it. A boy pressed it it shot up in the air and landed on the top of her head. The second time she fell down 4 stairs.

Both times she had symptoms - she was in a lot of pain (the second one her headache lasted 72 hours) she threw up (second time to get a CT scan) and was dazed and confused. But these were pretty unusual

Just to update… DD slept through and was absolutely fine the next morning - a total ball of energy as per usual! She’s saying all her usual words plus some new ones as well. I think she seems fine thank god.
