Do toddlers have optical reflex towards sun ?

It freaked me out today to see my less than 2 yr old son stare throughout window at Sun . Do babies not have optical reflexes that forces them to close eyes when looking towards sun ?

Was the sun close to the horizon? Or was it around midday?

@seaborgium it was around 11am when sky is quite high in sky, as I live in tropic area
