When could your baby clap and wave?

My son is 12 months (11 months corrected) and can't wave or clap yet. I have been trying for months everyday but he doesn't even attempt it. Did anyone else have babies doing this late?

My 12 month old doesn't either. I've been very worried too. She will tap two objects together if her hands if I say tap tap tap but when i take them away and say clap clap clap she won't do it...

My DS didn’t do it when he was the same age (adj inc) but then one day figured it out and was fine. If you are worried though, have a chat with your HV.

Do you wave and clap a lot with him and at him?

Both of mine were over age two before they did either. My second is 28 months and has only just started clapping at baby classes. He'll wave goodbye very occasionally but never when asked! All baby's develop differently, don't panic, baby will learn in their own time.

Of my twins - one is clapping the other isn't - I'd say she is probably around 6-8 weeks behind him in milestones but she's much smaller - they are 10 months

15 months for clapping, 18 months for waving. The most important milestone is pointing. I only say this as we are starting down the potential autism diagnosis route with my eldest who is 23 months and has never pointed (as well as other markers).

My girl twin is advanced for her age. My boy twin is behind for his age. Children will find their own pace x

Waving - 10 months
Clapping & pointing - 13 months

Did loads of practice with her to get her waving though. We waved hi and bye at everything - car, house, pets, bath toys etc.

I started to worry a bit about the pointing and clapping but then she just suddenly did them and now I feel silly for worrying. If I were you now I definitely wouldn't worry. Give it until 18 months and then reassess.

Clapping - 8 months
Waving & Pointing - 9/10 months

My DD was quite early with fine motor skills but later end of normal with gross motor, she was also 4 weeks early.

Clapping-7 months
Waving- only just and he's now 14 months.
He also didn't start crawling until he was 10 months old and still not walking.
Babies do things in their own time.
Don't worry too much ❤️
