Movement / Breathing Monitors and Moses Basket

Hi

Does anyone know if you can get movement and breathing monitors that will work with a moses basket? I'm not sure how big the sensor panels are, and what the cables are like, etc.

Thanks!

Surely the point of a moses basket is that you can keep the baby with you if they are asleep and you are moving from room to room? So why would you need a monitor for a moses basket?

We were planning to use the moses basket as a cot for the first few weeks /months / as long as it fits - ie overnight.

We had an angel movement monitor and it fitted into the bottom of the moses basket.

I liked to have it on overnight after DS1s difficult birth (blue baby etc.).

It gave us peace of mind (that is until the night he rolled off it - lol).

we just got a normal monitor with a movement sensory panel, sorry cant remember make and it worked fine in the moses basket.
Prettycandles- even if baby is in same room as you but you busy doing something you may not notice if baby stops breathing. The sensory panels detects movement from breathing and an alarm sounds if no movement is detected.
A word of warning, they can make you paranoid, you could very easily sit there for hours watching the red light flicker for every breath. Also remember to switch it off before you pick baby up, I always forgot and the alarm made me jump every time

Great - thanks for the info. They look like a great invention and I'm really keen to get one for the peace of mind- and hopefully there won't be too many false alarms and heart attacks!

Mine meant i could sleep!!!

Esp as my little man didn't really wake up properly for a couple of weeks after birth!

They are fab!

They can be hard to sit flat in a moses basket so dh cut a base out of plywood and put it under the mattress. I was also worried about dd entangling herself on the cable so put it throught the side in a really small hole I made. It gave us so much peace of mind

PortAndLemonaid · 13/12/2007 15:46

We used the Angelcare monitor in a Moses basket -- put a layer of magazines under the mattress to give a flat base.

They also use these for drunk people in jail cells . I had one and it was the best thing we ever bought .

jorange5 · 13/12/2007 19:31

the tommee tippee ones work in a moses basket.

clur79 · 13/12/2007 19:33

I have a tommee tippee one, and I am sure it would work in a moses basket. Its just a flat monitor you place under the matress.

Its great, gives me peace of mind, although I do admit to always forgetting to turning the thing off and having to run back upstairs again....

Gill79 · 14/12/2007 10:07

Great - think I will look at the TT or the Angelcare one then.

We had the Angelcare one and it was the best present we got. It is the first thing I recommend to family or friends that are pregnant. We used it moses basket and it worked fine.

With it we were never poking at DS or DD to see if they were breathing as we could just look at the light.

The only thing I would say is that the tick drove my DH daft so that got switched off pretty quick!!

ExDhsNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 14/12/2007 12:30

Weirdly my dh loves the tick and won't switch it off...!

I found it hugely reassuring after ds's breathing difficulties at birth (well actually it was a case of not breathing at all for him)

Do be really good about resetting the sensitivity and moving the sensor pad from time to time - this will cut down on annoying false alarms.
