Toddler not singing yet

I met with a friend for a play date this morning who has a DD the same age as mine (18 months). Her DD was singing a couple of nursery rhymes over and over - not the words obviously, just the tune! - but it made me a bit worried that my daughter doesn’t do that at all. Is it normal to be singing songs by that age? My DD has about 30 words but I’ve never heard her sing a melody. Does anyone know?

Yes, she is completely normal. Stop worrying.

It’s normal. Don’t compare

Really early! None of mine started then and they're all brilliant little singers now. It defintiely won't go on her CV, don't worry! You can introduce pitch by singing little bits of speech, to a minor 3rd pitch, as in nee naw of a police car. I'd be singing "hello baby" or "teatime baby" to basically programme the baby. That's the first interval children can master as nearly every body can go ner ner, ner ner, ner ner nee ner ner! My youngest is 2.4 and she is just beginning to replicate this minor 3rd. And just sing lots of engaging songs, especially interactive lap or action songs. All about play at this stage, but you can lay the foundations of a lifetime of loving music 🎶 .
