Wax I. 17 month old ears

Hi all.
How do I remove wax from my 17 month old ears safely?
He's always got waxy ears.. today I went to the go to get his ears checked and they commented they couldn't see the drum as his ears were so waxy. I'm unsure how to unblock them? I feel they're waxy all the time and worry about his hearing.
Any tips?

You can get baby safe cotton buds. They have a ridge half way up the cotton that prevents it going in any further. You can also use a dropper to pop a TINY amount of olive oil in each ear the night before

Also if he has one of those warm teddies that you pop in the microwave or a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, pop one under his ear when he's laid down. Helps massively

No don’t poke anything in children’s ears! Leave them alone, if the wax is visible on the outside you can wipe it off with cotton wool after a bath.

Thank you!
I've read about olive oil or ear drops? Has anyone used those?

Yes, Earol it's called, it's a spray. You can buy it in the chemist. I have used it on DS 23 months.

@Chocolatetrifle thank you! Did you find it helped at all?

Ask your local pharmacist for some ear drops - they will give you suitable ones to use once a day. My son had terrible ear wax at around the same age as yours and they couldn’t see past it - two weeks of daily drops and it was gone and his ears have been clear at every check since.

Hard to tell as no wax came out! However I was told the same as you that there was too much wax to see past the ear drum. I used it for a week.

Thanks all :) I bought some drops today and will follow the other tips too :)
