Birthday party

I've never planned a birthday party before so this would be the first. My son turns 6 and it's going to be an after school party due to me not realising how quickly things book up and how far in advance you need to book. Venue had no weekends left.

We've booked the local soft play and my plan was to invite his entire class (I didn't think it was fair to leave anyone out) but also didn't realise how many kids were in his class.

However there are 30 children in my sons class which is wayyyyyyy to pricy for me. The venue takes a minimum of 10. I was thinking a lot of kids might not even come due to it being closer to Xmas (it'll be beginning of December)

Is 30 too much? And also how far in advance shall I send the invites?

Wayyyyyy too many!
We just handed out invites to my DS 6th bday party to 10 of the kids in his class.
Don't feel like you need to invite everyone!

Ok, I’d do it like this

  • Decide who you are inviting: if you can’t afford or face the whole class, then boys only or a small group of his chosen friends. Don’t rely on people not coming, invite the number you’re happy with.
  • Send invites asap. Best done by a group whatsapp if you have the parents’ contact details. Or paper invites via teacher if not.
  • Make it clear on the invites whether it is drop off or parents stay. Also say whether siblings can come (but make it clear they must be paid for by parents).
  • If it’s after school and it’s drop off, some people may expect you to take all the kids directly there from school - make it clear if you can’t do this
  • Will you be providing tea? If so, ask for allergies/dietary requirements
  • If you haven’t had replies a few weeks pre party then chase.

Good luck!
