Son loosing weight

My 5 year old som has had issues with weight gain since birth. Born in 91st percentile dropped to 2nd percentile. Long story short he had his tonsils removed when he was two ( they were permanently huge surgeon couldn't believe the size of them) They didn't remove his adenoids. So over the last three months we have noticed bad habits coming back with his eating which had massively improved. He is gagging on food, refusing to eat, more tired and looking so skinny. We went to see GP who weighed him . He is sitting at 19kg and last December he weighed 18.5kg so only 0.5 more. We have to wait until January to get bloods done. My question is, is a 0.5kg weight gain in a 5 year old child normal? He has obviously grown taller since then as well so I was a bit shocked he hadn't gained more .

So he has gone from the 50th percentile in December last year to the 5th percentile now. Is a drop like this ok? The gp he told us to do weekly weights for next three weeks .
