Nursery/feeling unwell

DS has been unwell on and off for the last month. He had been off for 10 days the first time, a day after he was feeling better I sent him back but he only lasted 3 days before he was poorly again and off for another week. I'm stuck between sending him back this week as he's slightly brighter (albeit STILL not his usual self) but risking the chance he isn't 100% recovered and most likely will catch something else and be floored worse this time or keeping him off until I can be sure his immune system has fought off whatever this bug is?

I keep battling with myself as to what the right thing to do is, he is currently experiencing separation anxiety which makes everything a bit more difficult.

What would you guys do if it was your DC?

I send mine in as soon as he's better, I wouldn't wait for a cold to clear completely. Obviously things like D&V and viral illnesses like HFM I follow the nursery guidelines but they're not bothered by a snotty nose (because all the kids have got them).
