a little bit of blood in my baby's poo! (Picture of dirty nappy included)

Hello,

I saw a few dots / tiny streaks of blood in my 5-month-old boy's nappy (see attached picture) this morning and I'm so worried!

I have booked a GP appointment regarding this as well..

Has anyone seen something like this from your little ones' nappies? If so, please could you share what you did??

I've been breastfeeding my baby and started giving him some solid foods from the beginning of 5 months and I wonder if this caused this blood somehow..? I've been giving him some ground rice & 1 veggie (e.g. a potato, cucumber) and the consistency is slightly thicker than breastmilk.. One of the Health Visitors advised me to feed him solid foods from 6 months, but I started giving him solid foods soon after he became 5 months old as he seemed very much ready for it - controlling his neck very well, very interested in food & drink that I have, etc. I only spoonfeed him a few times once a day, every morning, hoping that he'll soon get used to a spoon - Should I have waited until 6 months as the Health Visitor advised..?? He's been having solid foods for about 2 weeks now.. Also the day before, the only new food I had was a piece of toast with lots of peanut butter (hadn't had the peanut butter for a while) - do you think this might be to do with the tiny blood?

Apologies for lots of questions and the dirty picture but I would appreciate if anyone could share anything with me please..

Thank you!

Ah thanks for your reply! It's very tiny amount of blood so you might not be able to see.....

I can’t actually see blood, just some parts darker than others. The appearance will change from when baby is ebf - so the poo will look darker in parts.
You sound quite anxious - personally I waited till 6 months to wean but you have made that decision now so no benefit in worrying about it.

There will be added texture/fibre that will look darker.
I genuinely can’t see anything concerning.
Perhaps contact health visitor tomorrow if you are 100% sure there is blood

Thanks for your reply! I think the picture quality is not that great so it doesn't show the tiny dots of blood I saw this morning.. I wonder if I'd better stop weaning until 6 months..
