Too many poops!?

Morning all! I need to talk poo!!

My EBF DD poops on average 4 times a day, sometimes even 5!! She's 4.5 months old - is this normal!? I've been reading online that breastfed babies poo less, sometimes once a week!! Never been the case with our girl and now I'm worried something is wrong.

We're at the weight clinic next week to get her checked as her weight gain has slowed down slightly - still gaining but slowly. She's only a little baby, 5lbs 13oz at birth, and still fits in some of bed 0-3months stuff!! Guess I'm worried all this pooping is contributing to this!! 💩

At four months DS suddenly went from pooping several times a day to only pooping once a week. Both extremes are considered normal.

As long as the poo is mustard yellow, doesn’t smell too bad and isn’t full of mucous I wouldn’t worry.

Totally normal! My EBF dd was pooing around 10 times a day until 6 months when she had some solids going in. It was honestly insane, she'd have monstrous explosions and would be in 3 different outfits a day at least! I didn't realise how much easier it would be when she started on the solids. Totally normal!

We are the SAME!
Mine exactly same weight at birth. She's followed the 9th percentile all along. She's 10m now.

She was in 0-3 forever. She is still a huge pooer. I infact posted the same question the other week! She still does about 5 a day. Been told by dietician, HV etc that this is totally healthy.

As above. As long as poo is healthy looking then
.. absolutely healthy! X

Anything from once every feed to once every 2 weeks is normal at this age Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/11/2021 18:50

DD was the same. I once went to the chemist and asked about constipation and he asked, 'how many days since she's pooed?" I said one and he was Confused but it was very unusual for her!

Shmerlock · 07/11/2021 18:58

@GuruLuru thank you!! This makes me feel a lot better! I always worry as she's such a little thing - but she's happy, feeds well, is chirpy and chatty! She does have a bit of silent reflux but other than that she's a healthy little girl!

@Alitlebitsleepy she's exactly the same! Explosive poops regularly 💩🙈!

It wasn’t normal for my dd, even though they were telling me it was. She had cmpa and the food was going through her so fast she wasn’t absorbing any!

Shmerlock · 07/11/2021 19:04

@mayblossominapril I did wonder if this could be the case with my DD but she hadn't shown any other signs. She does have a bit of silent reflux but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when she has a flare up. Did your baby have any other symptoms? Thanks for your reply!

SleafordSods · 07/11/2021 19:11

Now you've mentioned reflux and her smallness, I was thinking it might be CMPA too.

Shmerlock · 07/11/2021 19:20

@SleafordSods she doesn't seem to have flare ups when I've had lots of dairy though - or would it just happen any time regardless? I am going to ask them about CMPA, last time I suggested it they were very quick to dismiss!

Mine poos that frequently! Although it does vary a bit. And he is, at 5 months, about to go into 9-12month clothes...

SleafordSods · 07/11/2021 19:23

There's two types ige (immediate reaction) and non-ige which has a more delayed reaction abs can take up to 72 hours to show. Could it be that she has the non-ige type and just isn't reacting instantly?

The link I posted previously should explain it much better Smile

Shmerlock · 07/11/2021 19:31

@SleafordSods thank you, I'll have a look now. Apologies I hadn't seen that!

Don't apologise! I think the links can be quite hard to spot Smile
