Potty recommendations for out and about

Torn between the fold up type with biodegradable bags, and the suitcase style like from My Carry Potty. Thinking the latter might be too chunky to lug about, but I like the idea of not having to keep buying bags. Or do most people just wang the ordinary house potty in the bottom of the pushchair?? Any tips welcome!

I never took a potty out with me but knew where toilets would be if required. Always go for a pee before leaving the house too.

I take a locking lid plastic jug thing for wee and I bought 3 of those tron folding cardboard ones for poo from hippy chick and I’ve only used 1

My carry potty is the best. It just goes in the bottom of the pram. It’s good not faffing with bags/having to clean it immediately because it’s all just sealed away.

I never took a potty out with me.

Wee before leaving and go to loo while out if required.

If they are that unreliable they aren’t ready.

We used a folding potty, it was great!

We had a carry potty, which is brilliant. They are expensive but ours has never leaked, it is easy to clean and at a comfortable height for our lo. During peak covid public loos were not reliably open and we were going for lots of long country walks so we took the potty with us then.

We have a Carry Potty too. Can't really fault it!

Never took a potty out for our two, as other posters have said, go to the toilet before you go out and if you have to carry a potty with you at all times they're not ready. Please don't be one of those parents that whip the potty out in the middle of the supermarket or in the middle of a restaurant.

We use a Potette, but mainly in toilet seat mode on toilets rather than as a potty. But on the rare occasion we do use it as a potty I use it with the silicone liner

I was handed down a Potette Plus but to be honest when I went out and about with my newly potty trained DD, I worked out where every single toilet was on our routes.

While I know there is a card scheme for people with various disabilities and they often will let the elderly and small children use the toilets, I learnt when I was pregnant that I spent most of my time in areas that were part of the community toilet scheme.

This means petrol stations and shops, particularly large ones like supermarkets, plus pubs, cafes and restaurants allow any member of the public to use their toilets free.

My DD is use to perching on the toilet and where she thinks she will fall in she holds on to me.

So I've used the Potette Plus once in just over a year. The main issue was when my DD feel asleep when newly potty trained as she could pee herself. The safest thing to do was to have some pull ups and put her in one.

Don't get one. I toilet trained 3 without anything like this. It doesn't train them, just teaches them to pee anywhere anytime like wearing a nappy. I hate seeing kids peeing all over the place. My friend used it in a church once. Let them have an occasional accident. They learn quickly then.

Never took a potty out either

I just took a normal potty. It was great before DC managed wild wees when on countryside walks, and otherwise I tried to use it in toilets until DC was comfortable using the toilet.

I completely disagree with pps who said that if you need a potty when out then they’re not ready. Kids have smaller bladders than us…doesn’t mean they need to wee and poo in nappies. I used mine a lot with my DS (who was potty trained from 18 months) in public toilets because it was reliably clean compared to the toilets themselves and meant he didn’t need to be lifted on, which was useful when I had the baby in the sling. He also developed an irrational fear of handryers so having the potty meant he didn’t need to be squeezed right up against them as he would have been in some public toilets. There are loads of occasions when it’s handy that don’t mean going in the middle of a public place (which is gross).

Do you have w boy or girl?

I had a my carry potty for my son. Great for boys as it has a high front. He's also petrified of public toilets and for a long time they were all closed anyway.

For my daughter we just use toilets or bush wees. This is easier for girls as I just hold her on the loo and no direction issues.

I found having a potty really useful. My dd is much more comfortable with the potty seat placed onto a normal toilet, rather than me holding her. Also, she is great at waiting but if we go for a long walk to the park etc where there are no toilets then having a potty has been really handy, especially when she's needed a no 2.

I never took a potty out with any of mine. Waited till around 2.5 to 3. Couple of accidents and done.

I'd image something like the baby Bjorn is probably baby quite good because it.comes apart and the piddly bit can be easily rinsed?
