Just out of interest... (in your opinion) what chores should a 13 year old be doing?

It depends on a number of factors, but I'd expect them to be responsible for their own room and being organised for school etc.

I'd also expect them to chip in towards the general running of the house so loading/emptying dishwasher, popping to the shop when needed, cleaning out/walking/looking after any pets, helping with meal prep and/or cooking once a week, setting/clearing the table/running a hoover round....some of those, probably not all.

What Nuff said.

It does depend on circumstances. Some children have a 5 min walk to school, others have a 90min commute. Some are at swimming training at 5am. Some are doing other activities at County level and it takes a lot of time. etc etc

At that age mine cleaned their bathroom and toilet. Cleaned their rooms and did their own washing
Cooked 1 night a week and cleaned the kitchen 2 nights.
Took turns feeding the dog and chickens.
We had a roster on the kitchen door for cooking, kitchen clean, pets etc.
Everyone was listed and their nights to do which job.
DH and me included.
