Travelling with an 18 month old

I’m very excited to be going on a train for the first time with my LO. He’s 18 months old and a bit of a live wire.

We’re travelling Manchester to London and back again in a day. Eek.

We’ve booked him a seat, and my DH will be there too, but I’m a little nervous that he’ll be a nuisance to the other passengers/get bored and upset.

We’re normally pretty good at entertaining him on car journeys, and he’ll sleep but I’m a bit nervous about this.

Any tips?

Have you got a tablet with headphones, tv shows/films/games downloaded ready to go. Colouring books etc, snacks, maybe some other toys to play with?

Tablet and headphones. I travel long haul with my kids a lot and this really is the only thing guaranteed to keep them quiet.
But I've also reliably found other travellers don't generally mind kind of generalized child noise, and areuch friendlier than you think.

You'll be fine. I flew to Australia and back with my son a similar age and very active. It was indeed hellish but i got through it and probably not even as bad as I'd imagined beforehand.

Snacks. Lots of walking up and down. Couple of toys.

Done it lots and without a tablet. It’s fine. Fun even. Go to a charity shop and get a fivers worth of little toys to pull out at intervals & have snacks.

Thanks for all the replies. We did it and no-one died, it was all fine.

For those stumbling on this thread later, the winning toys were stickers and window markers!
