Sleep Suit or Sleeping Bag??

Sorry, I know there are hundreds of threads about this on here but I can't find one that specifically answers by question!

I'm massively paranoid about the room being the right temperature for my little one. She's 5 months now but I'm still freaking out that she's either too hot or too cold. Our house manages to remain pretty warm all year round, we live in the middle terrace so I think we're kept warm by the houses on either side. Our room is usually between 22 and 24 degrees so I haven't been using blankets or a sleeping bag. Is this enough for her? I've put off buying a sleeping bag because they're usually 2.5 tog which I know will be too much and the 1.5 togs are really thin. When I look at temperature charts for babies, they always say to put baby in a vest in a 1.5 tog sleeping bag if it's warm. Is this essentially the same as using just a sleep suit with a vest on underneath? I find the whole thing very confusing!

I'm really sensitive to temperature so I can often feel cold even if the room is pretty warm or I can get massively hot even when it's quite cool. I think this doesn't help my judgement on whether my little one is okay or not. I regularly check her temperature and it's always in the safe zone but I still worry about it! Oh the joys of being a paranoid parent!

She's my first baby so I've got the additional new parent fears as well!

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

22-24 my son is usually in a short sleeved sleepsuit and a 1.5 tog bag. What type of sleep suit are you talking about? A baby-grow or something different. I think a 1.5 bag would be fine if you’re concerned it’s too hot, you can get a 1 tog bag?

No a vest and sleepsuit is not the same as a vest and 1tog sleeping bag. Do you not give her a lightweight blanket or other cover?

I agree with @SRK16, a long sleeved body suit with a 1 or 1.5 tog sleeping bag would be about right. That way your baby will have 2 layers around their core but just one on arms and legs. Also at 5 months your little one may be on the move soon; we always found a sleeping bag stops them wriggling so much and of course it stays on better than a blanket.

At 22-24 degrees a vest and sleepsuit should be enough. At 24 degrees my ds would be ok in just a sleepsuit. If she is too hot or too cold you’ll soon figure it out because she will wake more at night and either she’ll feel sweaty or her hands will be mottled and bluish. Babies aren’t as temperature sensitive as you think they are.

I haven’t been using a blanket because she’s such a wriggler. It always ends up being kicked off, even if I really tuck it in, so I worry about it covering her face.

I’ll try getting a lightweight sleeping bag then and she how that goes. Though they seem to be quite hard to find at the moment! I guess it’s because we’re no longer in the summer months!

I’ll also try not to worry so much about her being in a body suit and a baby grow/sleep suit as well. She rarely feels hot, I just worry about her being chillier in the colder months. However our house really is like sauna sometimes!

Thanks for your comments! Smile
