Aptamil- ready made bottles- are they too cold??

Hey mums, we spent 5 nights in hospital with my 5 weeks old (we are home now thankfully and all is fine). While there he was drinking the aptamil ready made little milks, all babies did so. We are now home and I’ve decided to give these these ready made bottles at night - which is a life saver for me as I don’t have to downstairs every 3 hour to make a bottle. But one question - is this milk not too cold for babies to drink?? It’s room temperature and I always thought warm milk is so much better, however my son seems to love it. Is it not too cold for their throat? Warming it up is not an option as I’d have to go downstairs so I Amy as well make up a normal warmer bottle…. How do you give these to your babies?

I only ever gave mine room temperature milk, with no problems. He's 3 now and only eats food when it's stone cold and even drinks cold hot chocolate!

Oldnews · 04/11/2021 08:00

The perfect prep machine makes room temp milk by the way, so you could get a machine if the ready made starts to get too expensive!

Sad

Personally I’d warm them OP.

Could you get a perfect prep machine?

If your son doesn’t mind it and doesn’t have any issues then I wouldn’t worry about it! My DD on the other hand couldn’t drink cold/room temperature milk as it gave her a bellyache!

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 08:01

Room temp is fine- even milk slightly chilled in fridge is perfectly ok (although it’s not as nice for the baby, it doesn’t do them any harm)

My baby only ever has room temp milk, I don’t arse about with warming to a certain temperature.

Elisemum · 04/11/2021 08:01

I have the prep machine already but it’s downstairs:) I use it during the day, but going downstairs at night was killing me. The ready milks seem amazing option at least for now when he is still feeding so often at night.

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy

Why does that warrant a sad face?

A child who can’t eat warm food?

Aimee1987 · 04/11/2021 08:03

If hes content drinking it then I see no problem. My son drank room temp bottles and I never had any problems.
Why do you think they need to be warmed? The only reason I found was that they were used to warm breast milk so was more of a preference of the baby.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 08:04

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy

I’m sure he would if he wanted to, he’s only 3.

Wagglerock · 04/11/2021 08:04

DS always drank it room temperature but DD would only accept warmed milk for the first few months. It was a hassle so if he's good with it room temperature I'd stick with that.

Or a child who has a preference for not warmed food. If the child is happy eating what difference does the temperature of the food make?

Still pretty sad

toomuchlaundry · 04/11/2021 08:05

@WheelieBinPrincess I assume because it isn’t usual for someone to only eat stone cold food, must be quite limiting diet

Stone cold!

Honestly!

orangejuicer · 04/11/2021 08:06

Room temperature milk is absolutely fine OP.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 08:08

Most three year old’s meals ARE stone cold once they finish faffing around eating it.

And cold hot chocolate isn’t sad- what do you think chocolate milkshake is?!

Bonnealle · 04/11/2021 08:09

It’s fine!! If it’s not a problem for him, don’t change it as you’re just making more work for yourself in the future!! Mine used to drink expressed milk straight from the fridge!! You don’t want to be carrying around heating apparatus when you go out, you’ll have enough to pack as it is!

It really wasn’t the cold hot chocolate that made me sad. Hmm Come on now. Don’t be silly.
WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 08:11

I think it’s silly to be saddened by a toddler’s food temperature preferences myself but let’s agree to disagree.

Aimee1987 · 04/11/2021 08:11

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy
I dont see any issue with it. My son starts his dinner with Luke warm food but honestly by the times hes finished it's gone cold. I ate the last 2 bites of his cottage pie yesterday and it was cold but still yummy.

@toomuchlaundry I dont see how that would limit a childs diet. If there eating dinner but just waiting till it's cold they would still have a varied diet.

Smurf123 · 04/11/2021 08:14

My ds always took them just as they were at room temperature. Like @WheelieBinPrincess he is now 3 and continues to prefer cold milk. At forest school he will ask for his hot chocolate cold instead of heated on the fire too.
Dd on the other hand is 3 months and isn't a fan of them at room temp she prefers them warmed a bit

bytheby · 04/11/2021 08:14

If he gets along with cold/room temp stick with it. Will make your life much easier when you are out and about!

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 04/11/2021 08:15

@Elisemum it’s fine, honestly

actiongirl1978 · 04/11/2021 08:17

My daughter used to have aptamil cartons and always had them at room temperature. Ditto bottles. Never had any issues.
