Aptamil- ready made bottles- are they too cold??

Hey mums, we spent 5 nights in hospital with my 5 weeks old (we are home now thankfully and all is fine). While there he was drinking the aptamil ready made little milks, all babies did so. We are now home and I’ve decided to give these these ready made bottles at night - which is a life saver for me as I don’t have to downstairs every 3 hour to make a bottle. But one question - is this milk not too cold for babies to drink?? It’s room temperature and I always thought warm milk is so much better, however my son seems to love it. Is it not too cold for their throat? Warming it up is not an option as I’d have to go downstairs so I Amy as well make up a normal warmer bottle…. How do you give these to your babies?

*A child who can't eat warm food?

Please, get a grip.

Thanks everyone! He absolutely doesn’t seem to have a problem with room temp so I’ll continue on- it makes life so much easier.

Sorry? You think it’s normal that a child can’t eat food with any heat in it?

What is normal in terms of a child eating food? I know some who won’t eat vegetables, some will only eat certain textures, some who only eat beige food, etc. Surely one that will eat everything but prefers it cold is ideal?! I have an adult friend (30s) who hates cold food - surely that’s more effort than just letting your dinner cool down a bit!

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 10:40

Exactly, he’s 3, there’s not always a logic! And eating your food cold doesn’t mean you have a limited diet Confused it’s varied food just…cold?!

Anon9990 · 04/11/2021 10:43

I’ve fed my baby with ready made since birth for every feed (lazy and careless with money lol)
But they have been much easier for me and in the very hot weather I used to put some in the fridge x

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 10:45

I think they’re fab for being out and about or caught short but the expense of using them exclusively is quite enough to put me off!

Blackmagicqueen · 04/11/2021 10:46

'I have the prep machine already but it’s downstairsI use it during the day, but going downstairs at night was killing me. The ready milks seem amazing option at least for now when he is still feeding so often at night.'

Op i just moved the machine upstairs at night and had sterile bottles rin a little cooler bag and powder measured out in dispensed so it was all ready to go. We just took it down in morning.

Mine had formula straight from the fridge. Still prefer cold milk (but eat hot food). Warming milk is an unnecessary faff and risk. All those people juggling boiling water trying to heat up milk in cafes, far easier to just pull out some milk from
the cool bag and no risk of serious scalds for the baby.

Hoowhoowho · 04/11/2021 11:03

We had a mini fridge in the bedroom so all we did at night was open it and pull out the milk.

Harrysmummy246 · 04/11/2021 11:28

Do you drink water at the temperature it comes out of the tap? Or even out of the fridge? too hot is more of a problem

shivawn · 04/11/2021 13:04

I think you're better off going roo. temperature from the start, that way your baby doesn't expect it to be warmed and it's much easier on you when out and about! My baby is 90% breastfed and when my husband gives him the odd formula bottle it's always room temperature Aptimel and he takes it no problem! I always have a couple of those small ready made bottles in my bag in case I get caught out some place that I'm not comfortable breastfeeding in.

Itsbeen84yearss · 04/11/2021 13:12

I have a friend who never warned milk to avoid the faff. Room temp is fine. If it becomes cold because temp drops overnight why don’t you take a bottle warmer upstairs. I used to have the ready made bottles sitting in it and just reached over and switched on, then poured into bottle

FudgeSundae · 04/11/2021 15:18

We gave ready made milk straight from the fridge! Two babies, one now a toddler who happily eats warm food. Neither knew warmed milk was a thing Grin

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy So what if he wants to eat it cold? Cold broccoli vs warm broccoli has no nutritional difference whatsoever. What's the problem?

DappledThings · 04/11/2021 18:51

Can't? Or just prefers not to? Why does it matter? I'm 42 and my mum is still going on about how I let my coffee go too cold before I drink it. I think she has hers scalding hot. It's just a different preference.

Hot chocolate for a child is usually only served a smidge above room temp anyway. Far better that than a burnt tongue.

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 04/11/2021 19:01

We aren’t talking about letting coffee go cold, or not having scalding hot chocolate. We are taking about a child who eats every single meal stone cold. I find that sad. To never have a warm meal. And I’m sure I am not alone. Just as I would find it sad for any child who couldnt access the whole school curriculum like their peer group, or a child who couldn’t join in with games like their peers.

I know MN has this absurd obsession with insisting children don’t need hot food but saying this is fine really is pushing it.

WheelieBinPrincess · 04/11/2021 19:02

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy are you NT? I don’t mean that offensively but it’s a REALLY odd thing to get fixated on so it makes me wonder.

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 04/11/2021 19:05

I’m responding to posts that have either tagged me directly or quoted my post. How is that fixated? Confused

MsFogi · 04/11/2021 19:06

@Oldnews

I only ever gave mine room temperature milk, with no problems. He's 3 now and only eats food when it's stone cold and even drinks cold hot chocolate!
I did the same - if they are used to it they are fine, makes life so much easier when you are out and about.
NommyChompers · 04/11/2021 19:08

Surely the amount of waste generated is the bigger concern with single use bottles!

Poppadoms · 04/11/2021 19:08

My ds only drank cold from the fridge milk even when tiny and in winter !

I would find it sad if he was never offered a warm meal. Nothing sad about him choosing a cold one. As a PP said it's all stone cold by the time they finish anyway. I'm pretty sure my DC have eaten about 80% of all their nutrition ever stone cold regardless of what temperature it was served at. So much faffing with it all the time.
