Mum guilt.

Does it ever go away...?

My 3 year old (just turned in September) was going to nursery since May this year 3 afternoons a week, I've just increased to one full day, 2 afternoons.
From January he will be going 4 full days 8. 30-3pm (school nursery) as I'm back to work.
Currently on maternity leave and feel immense guilt at sending him a full day when I'm off at the moment, I've got 7 weeks left of maternity leave.

I think he struggles a bit at a full day, as I've had comments on pick up,

He broke a mirror. Threw it down and it smashed... Well firstly, he wouldn't know it would smash, he's not got access to proper mirrors at home.

He's been a bit handy today...

And yesterday he came out telling me he'd been naughty, and his key worker said well just at the end, he was removed from carpet time because he wasn't using his kind hands.

Again, I feel like this is a reflection on my parenting, and feel so bad he's not sharing and being a bit pushy.
Is it his age, are all 3 year olds like this?
Teacher reassures me Its just his age.

Now I've got the whole day to myself, I don't know what to do with myself.

You never lose the mum guilt.

Maybe while you're on mat leave give him a slightly shorter day while he gets used to it? Like drop off half an hour late and pick up half an hour earlier. If that's allowed at school nursery.

But it is a phase. Our 3yo went through similar (he's had full days at nursery since 13mo, lockdowns aside). We felt awful, but then heard another parent being given the 'so and so has been hitting' chat at the gate the next day. I spoke to his keyworker and they reassured us that it was normal and they were used to dealing with it.

Doesn't make you feel better though.
