Acid reflux causing baby to wake every hour urging the night

My D is 5 and a half months old. She has never slept through the night since birth, however, she'd usually wake up every couple of hours for a feed or a cuddle then fall back asleep.

For around about a month now she's wakening every hour screaming!! Her eyes are still shut so I know she wants to sleep and is tired, the gp just puts it down to acid reflux. She's had acid reflux, colic & CMPA since she was 5 weeks old. I'd say the colic has passed. She is no bother during the day. She's on a special dairy free formula and has been on Omeprazole (which done nothing so I took her off it). I elevate her so she isn't lying flat at night and always burp her before lying her down. Tried baby gaviscon too and doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

She tries so hard to fall back asleep but something (I'm guessing pain) keeps wakening her up causing her to cry. The only thing that half settles her is sooking on the bottle (she won't take a dummy). I can't feed her every hour when she wakes up crying though.. Really needing some adviceConfused
Thanks!

Kendamil milk is amazing for reflux babies.

@Moonshine11 I can't give her Kendamil as she has cmpa:(

Elevate the top end of the cot so she’s a slight angle. Gravity can sometimes help with the reflux.

CeramicMary · 01/11/2021 07:37

Sorry I missed that you’d said that!

Moonshine11 · 01/11/2021 07:38

Sorry should have realised you said she had cmpa!

I can remember the different strength of meds now as few year ago for me

Sorry your having such a rough time, sleep deprivation is truly awful and it's not nice to see your baby not happy and waking up lots. Your doing amazing, Keep telling yourself that!

Just wanted to say that I've been there. Your baby is exactly how my son was until he was 10months old. He woke hourly through the night. He had acid reflux and I tried Omperazol and baby gaviscon too but nothing really helped. I ended up in hospital at a sleep clinic and it changed my life. They basically changed his entire sleep cycle. I think this coincided with him growing out of acid reflux as he developed.

@Nel246
I know time and age will help but it would be nice to have something to settle her right now. What did the sleep clinic suggest?

I wouldn't say they did anything to directly help with the reflux but I was just put on a really strict routine with him around feeds and naps. He was taken off me on a nighttime and the nurses assisted with getting him to self settle.

How long did you persevere with the omeprazole? It takes a couple of weeks to kick in.

T0rt0ise · 02/11/2021 01:58

Go back to the Omeprazole, give it longer and adjust the dose (in discussion with the GP). You can also use it alongside gaviscon if needed (this is what we had to do).

@Danikm151 @T0rt0ise
She was on Omeprazole for almost 3 months, it done absolutely nothing so I took her off it. If anything she seemed better after taking her off the Omeprazole Confused
