Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone has experienced/ experiencing this & if they have any tips to help?

My 15 month old toddler still isn't doing the following, should I be worried?

  1. Self- feeding: he only eats his snacks with his hands & his main meals are spoon fed. When he is eating he needs to be distracted by playing or watching something in order to eat!?
  1. Cows milk in a bottle: I tried using a beaker & straw cup but the little one refused to have any milk! Are there any good recommendations of cups people are using & how they successfully transitioned their little one into using a cup? My little one does drink water in his straw cup though?

Hope to hear back from what parents have experienced!

Yep! Mine is 18mth and still on a bottle. Refuses a sippy cup unless at nursery. Can drink from a cup or straw. Just doesn’t want to!

Feeding is getting better now, but mostly with his hands.

Don’t stress! It will happen. Keep offering cups and spoons.

Ds needed distracting to eat at that age and the spoon feeding suddenly clicked. Have you tried lining up a couple of loaded spoons?
Cups try different ones. The Ikea or tommy tippee free flow I found best for ds. Dd has had to use these as well as that’s what’s we had.

DS didn’t click with using spoon / fork until right before he was 2 so don’t worry! He also never liked sippy cups so we got him one of those munchkin miracle 360 cups and he took to them much better. I didn’t have the milk problem personally but I know many mums that did. Their kids just associate milk with a bottle so it took a while to break the habit.

Totally normal don’t worry!

My LO is nearly 20 months and still has his milk from a bottle so you’re not alone. He can drink water from an open cup, beaker with straw, sippy cup but refuses to have milk from anything but a bottle. He has a bottle before bed and now wants one before his nap on the days he is at home. He doesn’t drink it at nursery though.

I’ve decided not to worry about it for another few months. Someone did tell me that she got her children to stop having a bottle by switching back to size 1 teats so that could be something to try if you want to change things.

Your toddler sounds similar to mine. He only started using a spoon at 18 months. Until then he just stick his hand into the bowl and shovel it into his mouth.

The milk in a cup thing is still an ungoing frustration for us. We unsuccessfully tried many times to switch from the bottle to cup between 12 and 18 months and eventually just stopped giving him milk in a bottle. That was 8 months ago and he still won't drink milk from a cup.

He knows how to drink water from a cup (sippy cup and normal cup) but the moment he noticed it's milk he just refuses.
