15 month old still not doing this...

Hello,

My 15 month old toddle still isn't doing the following & I wanted to see if anyone has any tips or where to start now?

  1. Self-feeding: he only has his snacks with his hands & when he has his main meal he needs a distraction in order to eat!? The meals I tend to give him are spoon fed.
  1. Drinking cows milk from a bottle morning & night time: before I tried a beaker & straw cup with the little one but he refused to drink any milk from it. We are still using a bottle & wanted to ask how best is it to transition him out of this? Which cups have you used that have worked out well with your little one?

Hope to hear back from anyone who is experiencing or experienced this! Smile

Definitely stop spoon feeding him if you can. For meals either serve finger foods or place a bowl/plate and spoon in front of him. That way it’s up to him what he chooses to eat and doesn’t need a distraction. If he eats nothing that’s fine.

My first had a bottle of milk in the morning until 18 months and other drinks from a 360 cup. Now uses an open cup at 2.5 so you could try that or a 360 cup? Also couldn’t use a straw until he was over 2.

I did the same as you with my first with spoon feeding and distracting and lived to regret it because he was only eating it without thinking and now has huge issues with texture. Second baby fed himself from 6 months and uses a spoon and fork now at 13 months.

Try hand over hand feeding so he gets used to/makes the connection between hand holds spoon, spoon moves from bowl to mouth, I eat food.

Hand over hand is literally your hand over his guiding him through the action, until he does it himself.

You need to stop the spoon feeding. Plenty finger foods.
Play with him, both have a spoon pretend to eat.
Do you sit and eat with him?

Tommee tippee free flow cup we had. Although DS still had a nighttime bottle until 2.

He doesnt need to drink cow’s milk. He just needs 350 mg of calcium a day which can come from cheese, yoghurt and wven forfeited bread.
