Baby shoes/boots

I'm feeling really stupid. DD is 5 months old, and the days are getting colder (in Spain so have had nice weather up till now), so I've bought her some soft boots. Actually I've bought her three pairs and I can't get any of them on her.

The boots are definitely big enough, and open very wide to get the foot in. But her foot just seems to stop before her heel reaches the bottom, and her toes never reach the end of the shoe.

Am I completely inept? Is it because her feet are extra-chubby? (She isn't, but her feet are very thick.) Did I miss this session in the ante-natal classes?

Honestly, it's actually given me the rage this morning and even caused an argument with DH who says they're supposed to be like that Hmm.

Please MN, help an idiot out...

How soft is soft?

bloodywhitecat · 28/10/2021 10:55

This is why I only ever put socks on babies that aren't pulling to standing, they don't lose that chubbiness in their feet until they start moving on them.

We used mocc-ons for ours until they were confidently walking. Or just thick socks. Never saw the point of baby shoes at that age (as they mostly tried to take them off anyway 😂)

@Rainallnight Soft fabric soles with non-slip dots.

@JC12345 @bloodywhitecat You're both probably right, not much point! I just felt she should have something over her socks now. I'll look out for some thicker ones (which she will kick off in the first 5 minutes, but hey-ho...)

@JC12345 I'd never come across mocc ons before - thanks for the tip!

Another thing to try is Sock Ons

I never gave them anything that ever resembled shoes until they started walking.....

In winter I put booties on top of the socks. And, yes, they are tricky to put on.....

Wagglerock · 28/10/2021 12:11

Mine just wear socks. If we're out in the buggy, we've got a cosy footmuff and have a blanket in the car for over the car seat. Life's too short to be wrestling shoes on tiny chubby baby feet.

seaborgium · 28/10/2021 13:27

Put her in a sleepsuit. Then you don’t need socks or shoes.

Return the slippers/shoes.

If you're worried her feet will get cold, either get her thicker socks, combo tights and socks, or footed leggings etc

Honestly, her feet will be fine. She'll likely be under a blanket anyway!
