Colds, calpol and a small baby?? Help!

DD is 8 weeks old and has an absolute rotter of a cold. When born she weighed 6lbs2oz, lost a bit and is now consistently gaining but she's a small baby. Under the 10th centile throughout pregnancy and the same now she's here.

Calpol says for babies of 2 months that they must weigh over 4kg. Equates to roughly 8lbs13oz. Two weeks ago she was only 7lbs8oz. She also has her jabs coming up and it says to use calpol but if she doesn't weigh enough what happens then?

Baby brain is in full swing here so any advice is much appreciated 😊

call the gp. or health visitor

@purplesequins they were my first stops. I've sent a message to HV with no reply and can't speak to a GP.

The nurse giving your injections should be able to advise on Calpol - or a pharmacist?

Have you tried saline nose drops? They work well I fine (I use the spray on myself when I've got a cold). Raise the head of the crib/basket. Calpol plug in is good too but I think you'd have to check what age that's suitable for.

Are you sure you can’t speak to a gp? My surgery will always speak to me that day when its a concern about a baby. If not call 111, and make sure you know the signs of bronchiolitis to look out for with baby being so small xxx

My DD was only 7lb 5oz at her 8 week jabs (born 3lb 9oz) and the GP said it was fine to give her Calpol. I’d push to speak to a GP.

Ask your GP, they should make room over concerns for a baby.

Our baby had her jabs at the same time as our checkup so there was a nurse and GP present, GP prescribed her calpol.
I take her in to the bathroom with me when I have a shower to help clear her snotty nose. Olbas oil on a cloth hung in the room at night helps too.
