Do you go out and about with a snotty baby?

My ds is 1. He's been unwell now for a few weeks, first a cold, then hand foot mouth and now another cold.

His nose is streaming so he looks unwell but he doesn't seem unwell in his behaviour.

Before I thought it was right to stay home whilst he was unwell, but now that the bugs are coming back to back I'm wondering whether to just continue as normal. Go to our baby groups, and softplay, and meet ups with other mums etc.

I'm pretty fed up at home all day now but is it ok to take babies to places where other babies might catch it? If it's something horrible like d&v, or hand foot mouth that's one thing, but for a snotty nose? I'm not sure the etiquette. Wondering what others do?

Mine were that age pre-Covid and I always took them out with a snotty nose. You’d never leave the house between October and April otherwise!

I don’t know how people would react now but I’m assuming everyone would understand

If they're well enough in themselves we carry on as normal (but obviously after a PCR test if they've had a cough or fever these days).

We would never leave the house if we stayed in for snotty noses (3 & 1 yos in nursery fulltime).

I wouldn’t go out if I stayed in when DS has a snotty nose. He’s even given it to our newborn 😂

Colds/snot yes-DD has a permanent one.As long as they are happy.
DD would never leave the house otherwise.

Thanks all. That's reassuring, I'm at the point when I wondering when we'd be able to leave the house if I wait until he's 100% not snotty.

Think I'll just crack on then before we both start getting some serious cabin fever!

Just remember to pack tissues! More than you think you need Grin

Snotty nose but otherwise well then yes just carry on with everything. You will never leave the house otherwise! Any other symptoms especially fever, d&v or any rashes then no. I would go for a walk with the pram for fresh air but nothing else. I am not even mentioning covid testing because after all this time that's a given...

We could send our DC to nursery with HFM 🤷🏼‍♀️

DC are at school now but yes still take them out with a snotty nose. When they first start nursery it can be a bit relentless with bugs and colds so you'd never leave the house!

Rosesareyellow · 26/10/2021 12:19

We’d be home all the time if we didn’t Confused It’s normal for toddlers to get 6+ colds a year. As long as they are feeling ok I would still go out.

Yes because I have other kids and a dog to look after too. Don't go out too long if they are struggling with an illness but go out if needed.
