ok, I am reasonably experienced but my knowledge is slightly out of date.

my ideal nappy is...

microfibre absorbancy bit (for quick dry), encased completely in fleece (to keep bum dry),
not a stuffable pocket (because I don't like them),
ideally velcro fastening
.

does this nappy exisit?

if yes, where can I buy them from?

I'm ok with wraps, I like motherease poppers

thank you

Cornwall Real Nappy Project 'tis a fab shceme.

Where are you then to hear about such Cornish things?????

coby: you sound a bit like me! lol I think my husband thinks I'm mad to be so interested/excited about cloth nappies! LOL He's always telling me I should do demos or something, after I give him a demo about how great one is or how it works! ROFL Maybe I should volunteer for our local real nappy project and it would channel my craziness for nappies into something more useful & get others into using them! I don't drive tho (well, only on L plates), so maybe I shouldn't really take something on like that if I can't get about very easily.

Anyway, nice to know I'm not the only one like this! Funny what cloth nappies do to you! Makes changing nappies fun - people would think us mums are really mad - loads of ppl think the nappy side of things is the worst part of having a baby! If only they knew!!

Hello Rachel! (desperately trying to remember what nappy I bought off/ swapped with you ).

I'd highly recommend seeing if you have a local nappy project that needs volunteers (if you have the time). I have to say I have only just started but the first thing I did was attend a meeting all about nappies which lasted 4 hours (loads of fun ). Couldn't wait to get my trial kits home to have a shuffle through. They have loads of different types of nappies included - some I haven't used before , so I'm really enjoying finding out about those. You wouldn't neccessarily have to drive to advise for the CRNP as individuals can come to your home for a demo if you both prefer, maybe your local project would have a similar set up. There are nappy coffee mornings to arrange and ante natal groups to talk to too, but I don't see why you couldn't do that using public transport - esp since they are probably places you attend regularly as a mummy anyway.

You could also consider becoming a Lollipop advisor / seller. I'd love to but minimum outlay is £100 and I just can't stretch to it just now

Gosh, look at me rattling on (oh dear) at least some people on here understand . The number of people who are sad to see their LO's potty train - no release for cloth addiction ARGGHHHHHHH

jamila169 · 11/12/2007 22:43

to be really hardcore you've got to wait until you have an uncontrollable urge to make your own, because you can't find a nappy which does everything you want it to

coby · 11/12/2007 22:45

doh! Lollipop pocket swap for size 1 fluffle (we have exchanged many nappy related messages according to my 'sent items' box )

coby · 11/12/2007 22:47

HAH! Done that - total disaster . Cut up 2 x bamboo squares to make a fleece lined bamboo pocket nappy (turned out to be too big for DH let alone DD2 ) - not that DH needs nappies . Could really do with those squares now too

thebluefoxategreensocks · 11/12/2007 22:48

jamila169: umm, guess I'm not there yet, as I've only made ordinary boring fitted terry nappies! LOL (and still not refined the art well enough to get a perfectly fitting nappy! One day tho! When I get enough time...prob when babies are out of nappies tho before that happens.)

thebluefoxategreensocks · 11/12/2007 22:58

coby: oh, was it you I got the lollipop pocket nappy off of! I get mixed up with these MN names - sorry! I'm still loving it! I've now got a few Minki pocket nappies too - so my favourite nappies at the moment are these kind, fleece pocket nappies. I just put bamboo in for nights and ordinary prefolds for during the day. My little boy looks so comfy & cosy in them! And I love how dry his skin feels in the morning - I think much better than just an ordinary fleece liner over bamboo would be - but maybe that's just my imagination.

Our local Highland Real Nappy Project was recently "training" new volunteers, but I only heard about the event a few days before it happened, so didn't end up going along. I think it's becoming quite popular and they have quite a few advisors in area already and are continuing to train more! Still, I think I've only seen one mum at the local clinic using cloth on her baby! So more work needs to be done!

Afraid I'm a bit of a home-person (as hubby & I work from home together), so don't get out of the house much. But yes, there is at least some public transport up here - just not as good of links as you probably have down there!

Nappy Nation was recently looking for a representative to sell for them up here in the north of Scotland - my husband thought it sounded a great idea too - and I emailed them about the "post" but got no reply. Oh well. Maybe I'll do something with nappies someday - apart from just buying/swapping/using on my babies!

thebluefoxategreensocks · 11/12/2007 23:01

btw, anyone ever done Nappuchinos with/for Tots Bots? Was just on their website (totally unrelated) and saw the link where you can sign up and they'll contact you. Just wondered what it involved. Tho I'm sure something a bit unbiased (like a real nappy project) might be better.

OK, must get to bed! Enough of nappies for now, or next I'll be dreaming about them!

I have just recieved my lollipop polar micro fleece, it looks so small, I have got the biggest size but I can't imagine that it is going to hold much wee.
we shall see!

Ohhh, I thought you were going to go for the lollipop microfibre one (losing the plot rapidly here ). Let us know how you get on. The microfibre one does hold a suprising amount of liquid, not sure about the micro fleece one though as I haven't tried - theflyingevil said they were fine though didn't she so they can't be that bad

thenewgirl · 13/12/2007 20:39

LOVE the micro fleece, it looks very comfortable on my 7month old and didn't leak in 4 hours of wee (a lot of wee) his bum was very dry and looked peachy (not all wrinkly or marked).
I will try it out on my 2 yr old tomorrow, it is size 2 so should fit him but it is very small. if it does work it will become my all time favorite nappy!

thats excellent news (and a big help to me next time I'm asked how good they are - first unbiased report I've heard )
