12 week old bedtime routine

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone's little ones have gone through similar and if anyone has any advice.

My DS is 12 weeks old. Since about 3 weeks we've had a routine of calming music, change into pj's and swaddle blanket (one of the tommee tippee zip type of things) and then feed to sleep (he's breastfed). Usually the changing into pj's and swaddle would take around 10 minutes then he'd feed for 45-60 mins and fall asleep (although the end of the feed was less feeding and more just comfort sucking).

For some reason (which I can't work out) he's now taking ages to get to sleep. Tonight he was showing signs of being tired at 8pm so I started his routine. And he's still awake now at 10pm after countless feeding, him starting to drift off to sleep, waking then being fussy and then starting the cycle again. I know he's definitely tired and I was sure to follow his tired cues and tried to make sure he wasn't under/overtired but it's been this way for a few nights now! I'm baffled.

Any advice is appreciated!

Sounds like normal behaviour. Could be cluster feeding to up supply for a growth spurt. Lots of changes at this age!
Try to not over think it, go with the flow and be wary of believing what you read about what your baby 'should' be doing. Well done for doing a fabulous job!

Agree with the person above. Could be cluster feeding but at this age he won't have a set routine yet. It takes abit longer for them to fully establish it so continue with your routine but don't be put off when he doesn't follow suit 😊 he's still very little

Hi guys, thank you both for your replies! I think a growth spurt and cluster feeding is probably right come to think of it, he was dropping percentiles and had a tongue tie which has only just been snipped 2 weeks ago and he's finally putting weight on now so I think you guys are right. I'll keep up with the routine as much as possible but I I try and be flexible since he's so little! Last night after around 1 hour of trying I took him out of his swaddle and just cuddled until he started showing his tired cues again and he did eventually fall asleep at 10.30pm and slept for 6 hours before his next feed so we got there in the end!
