Daughter is 14 months
Been full of cold now for over 2 weeks. Rang gp and couldn't get an appointment. Rang 111 and noone got back to me
Ended up in a and e for 14 hours and got diagnosed with a chest infection. This was on Wednesday
I'm not complaining about the wait at a and e at all, more frustration that i had to go to a and e at all.
Anyway 3 days later on antibiotics and she isn't any better at all.
Shes so chesty and she has a high temperature.
She hasn't eaten anything solid for almost a week now. Having milk and water.
All she's doing is crying and sleeping.
I Rang 111 this morning who told me someone would be in touch within 4 hours. Its now hour 6.
I appreciate there busy but I really really don't want to go back to a and e
Is there something I'm missing?

Grab yourself some snacks and drinks for when you are back on the ward.

foreverinadaze · 23/10/2021 15:39

@Fallagain

I would prepare yourself that she may need a 3 day course of IV antibotics.
I am very prepared to stay here as long as it takes to make her better. Husband is on standby with bags of clothes etc to bring to hospital if needs be I've already rung my work and taken the next week off.

That's a good idea

On a side note thanks everyone for the help I've received on every time I've posted
Honestly I needed the push to go to a and e. My instincts were telling me to go but i didn't want to be a bother
Thanks everyone

Get your DH is bring in your DD favourite cup, drinks and snacks. Don’t worry about them being healthy. I remember DD1 had to have a antibiotics at 3 in the morning, cue her wanting a tea party.

Thats an amazing idea. She has a favourite cup as well. Thank you for that idea. Her favourite snacks are definitely not healthy but if she eats it I don't really care

So glad you followed your gut instinct. We mums know our babies better than anyone.
Wishing her a speedy recovery. Keep us posted x

Got to the ward about 20 minutes ago. Husband dropped off loads of our stuff including favourite snacks and her favourite sippy cup.
She looks exhausted and hasn't woken up since 6. The oxygen is really helping, didn't realise how congested she was until now. We are going to be in for a minimum of 3 days.
Husband picked me up 2 new books to occupy myself with while she sleeps

Glad you're in the right place. Our son had double pneumonia at 4 and it was terrifying BUT he got through it.

Try and rest when you can although I know it's hard because you have adrenaline coursing through you

foreverinadaze · 24/10/2021 09:37

Well She slept from half 6 to half 8 this morning apart from a brief wake up with the observation checks. Shes had a little bit of fruit this morning and is sounding a little less hourse. Still very quiet and withdrawn. Waiting for doctors to do rounds
Thought I'd update you all 1

Aw bless her she obviously needs the rest, glad the oxygen has helped. Little kids go downhill fast but they do tend to bounce back quickly too, so hopefully it won't be long until she is back to herself 🥰

thaegumathteth · 24/10/2021 15:07

Glad she's rested - have you managed to sleep at all?

How did you both sleep last night? Hopefully your little one is starting to feel a bit better now

She is thank you! Last night she came off the oxygen to see how she managed and she had to go back on it. Its a really nasty infection but she's less congested and the doctors are happy. Said we can try taking her off tomorrow again when the antibiotics should really be kicked in. I slept better. A little sad she still needs oxygen but she's in the right place. Her cheeky personality is coming back and she's eaten dinner today so she must be feeling a little better. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Great news - definitely seems to be improving

notasillysausage · 25/10/2021 23:06

She sounds like she is doing well, what a little star. Hope you are managing to get some sleep, it’s exhausting when your little one is in hospital. Fingers crossed for you with the oxygen, I know what it’s like waiting for them to be ready to switch it off. She will all of a sudden turn a corner with it. It’s brilliant that she’s eating again Smile

foreverinadaze · 26/10/2021 07:44

Came off oxygen last night!! Shes holding a good level. Going to be here another couple of days they said to check she maintains it. But there very happy with her. Shes eating her second breakfast currently 😂

That’s brilliant news! You must feel very relieved. Now she is on the mend are you able to swap with your partner at all? I’m sure you must be exhausted and a nice shower and cup of tea at home would do you the world of good.

I've managed to do a swap and I'll go back tomorrow. My husband is desperate to see her and I'm desperate for a few hours in my own bed. Shes lost some weight but I suppose it's to be expected. Can't wait to sleep 😂

So glad you got home, hope you had a good nights sleep. Hopefully your little one will be home soon. How is she today?
My dd has just gone back to nursery today after 2.5 weeks off and a week long hospital stay within that time, feeling a bit nervous and worried she will catch another bug.

foreverinadaze · 27/10/2021 19:12

I am back in with her tonight. Hopefully last night. Fingers crossed. Shes doing good. Very chatty. Antibiotics stopped yesterday. Temperature is all good. Doctors said to see her in morning and go from there. I loved my sleep yesterday though!

Glad you've had a rest and she's much better. When you get home you might feel a bit wobbly about it all, I know I did but remember you trusted your instincts and that should give you a confidence boost.
