Weaning regression after illness

Wondering if anyone can help me please even if to just reassure me this is okay!

My 8 month (nearly 9) old son was quite poorly with bronchiolitis a few weeks ago, he was in hospital on oxygen for a while.

It's been a couple of weeks since he's been out and he still isn't really interested in food. I appreciate when be was poorly this was why but I get the impression now that he's just got used to having only milk again and this is all be now wants.

He was doing really well before he got ill with all sorts of foods, now I feel like we're back at square one.

Is it okay to still give him mainly milk and try slowly to introduce foods again? I worry he won't be getting enough nutrition now at his age reverting back to just milk for a while.

Sorry my HV is crap so I'm asking here!

It’s absolutely fine. His milk should be his main source of nutrition still anyway so I wouldn’t worry too much and just pop him in his highchair at meal times with a little food on his tray.

Totally normal. You could try taking the pressure off and give him some little sandwiches and some halved tomatoes and cucumber sticks or similar and eat together for this meal on a rug with his teddies? Alternatively sit him in your knee while you eat, things on your plate often look far more tempting Smile

Definitely fine! Offer food at normal times and if they eat they eat and if they don’t they don’t. It’s your job to give them the opportunity to eat, not ensure they eat. This is especially true at their age and just after being poorly. My 19mo is still the same now, takes him a few days to get back into food, just the same as us after we’ve been ill. Take the pressure off yourself and try to relax xx
