Tracking 2nd percentile

Had six week check at the GP today and my DS is tracking the 2nd percentile, having only put on 40g in the last week. Doctors have said they're not concerned as he is developing well, is strong and alert, has lots of wet and dirty nappies each day, but he looks very scrawny (although long), especially when compared to other babies his age. He's exclusively breastfed and I'm worried that he might not be getting the best start in life. I've had feeding monitored and his latch seems good and he feeds on demand. Husband is 6"5 and I'm 5"10.

Any similar experiences of slow weight gain and tracking 2nd percentile in the early stages?

someone has to be on the second percentile.....it's normal so long as the child doesn't drop off nor climb up onto another. Following the curve is what you want. This is healthy development (with some small caveats). All my children were below the 5th percentile for weight....one is a 6 foot 2 boy now!!

My DD has tracked 2nd percentile all along, she's now 19 months.

Other than her clothes lasting longer (still in 9-12months) and it being a nightmare to find shoes that fit (size 2) we've not seen anything different, she's hit all her milestones and she's so greedy with food (she was ebf too). It's hard not to worry but as long as he's feeding well, alert and plenty of wet/dirty nappies I'd try to just go with it, I spent so much time worrying about my DDs weight and turns out she's just a tiny one Grin

My baby is 2nd centile. She is 50th for length, so also very long and scrawny. She was SGA / IUGR and 9th centile at birth. She then dropped to 2nd centile after a two week stay in NICU / SCBU for sepsis. When we came home she dropped even further to 0.4th centile 😭 It was such a stressful time. As a result of all this, we are mixed feeding (each feed 30mins bf and then 2oz of formula top up) and she is now stable on the 2nd centile at 17 weeks old. The HV isn't concerned now that she is steady and her neonatal doctor told us it was good for her long term health not to be jumping up the curves. I think she might just stay this way. Im 5'8, DH is 6'2 and we are both broad so its a bit of a suprise that we have produced such a tiny delicate baby!
