It’s almost like she’s not fully awake and loses all control. Her speech is good and normally she can communicate her needs well but she wakes up and screams this animal like scream with no let up for up to an hour, so bad she sometimes can’t breathe. She can’t say what she wants and if I offer food, water, tv, toys, cuddles she just screams more. She eventually stops but it’s a longgggg old time and not nice at all. Anyone else?!

DS used to do this, absolutely hideous. He's 10 now and I'm pleased to
say he doesn't do it anymore! (I realise that's not particularly helpful)

Yes My DS! He started doing it at about 18 months and still does it sometimes after a nap or if he wakes in the night at 4. Nothing works, it can go on for an hour, it doesn't matter what I do. It is happening less often now so I'm presuming he's growing out of it.

My DS did this at exactly that age. I remember clearly because my friend witnessed it when we were on holiday together and she admitted to me afterwards that she’d assumed I had been exaggerating when I’d mentioned it previously. DS grew out of it fairly quickly I think and is now a very chilled 18 year old.

DS did the same at a similar age. I put it down to growing pains as he did shoot up in those few weeks and then the crying suddenly stopped.

Oh gosh this is so reassuring! I am so pleased others can identify with this too. It’s so awful to listen to.
