2 year old misbehaving at nursery, teacher telling me this in front of other parents ... Giving his name to other parents when something happens

My ds is 2 and a half and started a 2 year old programme at the start of September, he has had a few incidents, pushing other children and even pulled a little boy back to get on to the slide before him 🙈 any time they let us know what is happening they tell us in front of the other parents at the door at collection time for everyone to hear, this is really starting to annoy me ... My husband leaves him and collects him as I work Monday to Friday as well. I left him up one morning and another parent said oh is this my child's name apparently he has been hitting my child. I hate that his name is being given out, is this allowed with child protection etc? I get that he can misbehave, he is in no way an angel but he is two and learning, I would hate to think that be is being labelled as the 'bad child' in school by other parents. I have arranged a meeting for tomorrow to get a chat to them myself. Anyone else have similar issues?

I do agree with you OP definitely, especially since he's sooo young

They are breaking dpa rules. No way is this allowed in the UK. Complain and threaten legal action.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 21/10/2021 14:44

No they’re not allowed to name any other child involved in an incident. But don’t assume the staff have stated his name. DS will say to me “George bit me!” whereas the staff have said “another child bit him”.

Readytogogogo · 21/10/2021 14:47

Yes I would very much assume it's the other children who are telling their parents.

mum2two12345 · 21/10/2021 14:47

They have also told us when someone hits my son, for example 'james' and my son's name have had an incident today 🙈 James hit my son etc

The staff at our nursery won't tell us which children have been involved in an incident, they'll say 'another child'.

DD is 2 but when I ask who's bit her (3 times in a month!) she'll tell me the other childs name.

The other day another parent was asked to sign an incident form so I asked DD who hit 'x' and she told me.

Don't blame the nursery unless you know for sure it's them.

They have given other children's names to my husband, he is able to come home and tell me who he has been in incidents with. My Ds can not talk in sentences yet, he knows a few words and is at speech therapy

DD1 was bitten at nursery and they never told us who it was and they shouldn't. At that age kids are too little to understand

But I must say, when it gets to primary school my opinion changes. DD1 is having some issues with some classmates in year1 and at this age kids need to be named..... especially since my DD isn't chatty at all.... so if the teacher was to talk to me about something I need to know names so I can have a proper conversation with my child.

I digress Grin

Bumblethebee · 21/10/2021 15:02

No they shouldn’t be giving that information out at all and that should be a private conversation. We have only ever had issues with DD being hit/ bitten in the baby room and it was all confidential.

I do think at 2 years old the child would likely tell their parents though.

Do you have a lot of hitting etc. in your nursery? I’ve never had an issue in the preschool/ toddler room. Only as a baby. Could it be the nursery environment that is causing behavioural issues with your son, if he has been hit by other children too?

girlmom21 · 21/10/2021 15:03

Your husband needs to challenge them on it then.

popcorndiva · 21/10/2021 15:19

My DS comes home every day from nursery and tells which child has been naughty and why. He is a right gossip.

Fallagain · 21/10/2021 16:26

Nursery shouldn’t be given out names but that age DD1 would have told me what had happened at the name of the other child.
