Newborn skin very red/ruddy?

Hello,

My 10 day old baby is very red/ruddy and has been from birth? She has been quite jaundiced, could this be the reason? Or will it settle down?

Did you have a short pushing stage? Apparently that can lead to very red babies. It calms down.

Hi @DuchessSilver yes I did have a very quick pushing stage (quick labour in general). I didn’t know this could cause it, thank you!

My third child was red for what felt like a long time. We mentioned it to the health visitor and they said they hadn’t even noticed. But because our other two had their regular skin tone from when they arrived, I.e. it didn’t change, it seemed odd to us. But it did go away after a couple of weeks or so.

@Himawarigirl this is my first so nothing to compare her to but she is just so red, glad to hear it should calm down soon. She looks so red in photos atm!

It will calm down soon! If you google it you’ll get all the explanations but it isn’t uncommon.

The word for baby in Japanese is “aka-chan” which means “little red one” because babies often have a red tone skin tone when they are born due to the pressure of birth on their tiny blood vessels
