4 month old - what is going on!?

FTM here so not sure if this is normal or not but my baby girl is 4 months as of Thursday this week and I feel like the last week or so she has turned in to a different child!!

She is grumbling constantly throughout the day - chatting away to me but almost as though she's telling me off 🙈. She is furiously chewing on her hands, and mine, and seems to get angry about it all the time. Also feel as though we've returned to constant cluster feeding again!! And won't go in the pram, she won't go in the sling/ carrier - she just wants me to hold and carry her all the time. If I try and put her down she cries and whinges until she's back in my arms - my back is killing me!! Sleep has gone to put too the last couple of nights 😴 which I expected with the regression but it's made her even grumpier!! Our baby classes are becoming a nightmare now as she wails through them, so much so she set off three other babies in yesterday's!! 😳

Is this normal around this age!?

normal.

If "She is furiously chewing on her hands" - she's hungry.

Ditch the baby classes - have a few quiet days at home just you and her. Chill out on sofa, maybe pop out for a walk for naps etc.

Is she teething?

Baby classes are just a way to add stress to your life that you don't need. Getting out of the house, trying to get there on time, worrying about if your baby crying is setting off the others etc.

Baby gets nothing from them, so don't go for a little while.

Take time to be with your baby with no distractions :) Fuck the housework!

@00100001 could it be teething? I am feeding her constantly, and when I see her doing it I always offer her the breast. Sometimes she'll refuse the feed and still chew her hands continuously!

@BaronessBomburst that's what I thought! I just wasn't sure if it was too early but it really seems like teething. She's not hungry because I'm feeding her loads, and she'll often refuse the breast.

My 4 month old is the same he's teething so that's what I put it down to. The chatting and stuff to is normal 4 months is when it usually starts.

it could be teething, sure.

Try her on some calpol maybe?

Shmerlock · 19/10/2021 09:39

@Unicorndragon1421 maybe it's teething for her too, she really chomps down on my fingers!!

My DS is 20 weeks and the same - the “telling off” chatter made me laugh, that’s exactly what it is!

He also has been furiously chewing his hands, even between switching breasts and immediately after a feed. I’ve been told it’s not hunger like new babies, but exploring and playing with their hands. He’s much better at grasping things now and they’re all straight into the mouth, he loves chewing on teething toys and has shown typical signs of teething since about 11 weeks but nothing through yet!

@Mamaofaboy I got a right telling off in our baby massage class yesterday - so much for relaxing her 🤣! This sounds exactly like my girl!
