How often did you breastfeed your 12 month old?

Did you offer the breast less in order to increase food intake at this point, or did you still feed on demand?

Bedtime only. Her choice tbh..

FelicityBob · 16/10/2021 22:26

Bedtime, naptime and overnight.
Didn’t offer otherwise in the day and they didn’t ask for it

I fed on demand until I weaned ds1&2 at around 2.5yrs old. I had a pt job though so not as much daytime feeding.

I found mine were quite happy to eat plenty and have lots of bf too. I would say at at 1yr they got 50:50 from bf and solids. By 2yrs it's was probably 20:80

DS3 seems much more food orientated at 6m than ds1/2 were though I don't think I've done anything different.

Just do whatever works for you and ignore anyone who comments. Not their monkeys and all that

Morning, naptime, bedtime, when hurt or ill at home. I stopped feeding outside the house at 12 months. Worked well until 2.5.

DappledThings · 16/10/2021 23:12

Morning and evening only. I stopped feeding on demand about 7 months and made it 4 times a day, 3 at 11 months, 2 at 12, 1 and 13 and stopped at 14.

Mine fed three times a day at that age. When she woke first thing and after waking from both of her naps.

Mine fed 5-6 times a day and still used to demolish 4 meals a day. He’s nearly 2 now and dropped down to 3-4 feeds with his meals. Every child is different.

Morning and pre bed! Mainly because of work! And I think they had a cup of milk at nursery around lunch time

3 times a day- morning, nap and bedtime. Also once in the night usually.

Feed on demand kind of. Sometimes if she asked to feed and it was near snack time I would offer her a snack instead. At 12 months it’s good to start adding in 2 snacks a day.

I still feed mine on demand (aside from when I'm at work, so most days it's actually just very early morning, evening and night). A breastfeeding group I'm on advises not to night wean until 18 months because then they'll be old enough to understand it. I did that with my eldest and it worked well, so when my youngest gets to 18 months I will night wean and then just follow his lead on decreasing feeds.

On demand around work for us. On a weekend he'd probably feed around 7 or 8 times in 24 hours. Less on work days. Just do what feels right for you and your baby.

There's no need to worry about cutting milk feeds to increase solids, they'll naturally do that at their own pace. There'll be times when they have a lot of milk and not much in the way of solids and vice versa. Personally I just go with it as I feel it teaches them to listen to their bodies and to self-regulate rather than eating just because they should.
